Who Likes Aircraft ?

As a follow up to my exhibition of love for the SST (Concorde), here is a video clip I spent weeks trying to find in my garage....buried in a box - now transferred from VHS-C to DVD and onto the innerweb. :D
The first plane you see is just for sound reference, and getting ready for the big bird. First up is the 5:00pm arrival from JFK, and landing is the 6:00pm arrival. We lived for 4 years in Richmond, SW London, directly under the flight path of Heathrow, and while I worked night shifts, the 5:00pm Concorde was my alarm clock, and the 6:00pm was my snooze button.
Enjoy.....

It honestly was really loud, and the vibrations would shake our bedroom windows - old wooden frame sash type....loved it. Terminal 4 is where the Concorde's were parked up each day, and I used to drive home after work sometimes through the airport and see Concorde being towed out for the morning run. I worked only about 2 miles from Heathrow, and would sometimes sneak up to the roof (checking the A/C plant...) just to watch the take-offs.

If you don't like the sound of jet aircraft landing and taking off, then you shouldn't choose live on the airport flight path.

File under: "I told you not to be stupid, you moron."

:p

I want more Snickers pkgs!!
Here in Cali, its a sickness, People buy houses surrounding an airport thats been there much longer than they are old, and immediately signing petitions and forming coalitions to push through legislature to close the airport.
OC JW & LGB are perpetually fending off these Dolts.Therr are 40 AP's in
LA Basin.
Kiwi did say He was Pro.....that He dug the traffic, especially the Concorde. I wish i could have seen the Russian SST...tupolev tu-144...
***** looking bastard.

I totally agree, which is why we chose to live under the flight path....we actually enjoyed it.

I was too young to chose anything, but my parents bought a house under a flight path (YVR) and I grew up watching DC-6 and Super Constellations fly over. Jets were new and infrequent; my dad actually went for his camera and took a picture if a DC-8 went over. I liked watching the big prop airliners at night because you could see the ring of blue flame exhaust around each engine.

One day it suddenly occurred to me that there were hardly any more large piston engined airplanes, I hadn't noticed when jets took over. There were still some Electras and Convairs with turboprops, but an era had ended. And on a hot summer day, if the breeze was just right you could smell the scent of jet exhaust floating over from the airport...

Check out this Popular Mechanics article:

QUOTE: "Showtime is an Air Force Reservist … he flies the F-22. He flies it really well," General Mark Welsh said. "He flew under their [Phantom] to check out their weapons load without them knowing that he was there. And then he pulled up on their left wing and then called them and said, 'You really ought to go home.'"

Thanks super-bee_ski, great article. And I enjoyed the link at the very end for the A-10 Warthog as well!

Yeah, but this is early 90 King Air hartzell from three blade,,,,fat, beaver tailish......Your birds are 200's or 350's.....good chance You have both models in those roles. 4 blade Hartzells.....Probably have some Q-tips in the group....last couple inches are turned 90 degrees. A story about Q-tips,.....when first introduced in 90's, a green FAA inspector was out doing 'ramp checks', came across a bird with Q-tips......hung a red tag on, because He thought the tips were bent. True story. The noisiest part of a prop is the tips.....the 90 degree, backwards facing tip helps to quiet them and retard the tip from going supersonic.

A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I took a two week road trip around BC and Alberta. I saw this Electra at the Red Deer airport, used for firefighting purposes.

Doc, a genuine B29 WW2 survivor. And has been rebuilt to military specs, is being readied for her first flight. This will be the second of only two, B29's being flown today. This clip shows an engine run up test.

I like the Orion/Electras....i like anything Lockheed.....but, the turbine Commander to the right is a Hot Rodder's Bird.
Ted Smith Aerostar is a smoker on recips....turbine conversions are sheer hairball......Merlin ll's & lll's are. King Air 200 sized, but quite a bit quicker. But the two the way they rolled out of factory that really ring the bell....last variant of mitsu/mooney MU-2B...400+ KIAS @ altitude. The Piper LS-400 Cheyenne....the mitsu is a little chubby, kinda ugly duck, but the LS-400 is eye candy.
Current production turbo-prop hot rod is the Piaggio pusher/canard, also over 400 Knots @ altitude.
I remember You like all Commanders Photon....they be lo-riders & looks to live up to their performance. I loved watching Bob Hoover in the 500 & 680 Shrike recips doing His thing.
Base Aero Commander is also a lot of Ted Smith design.....Who was designer on my Absolute Favorite You know.....the Widomak'r. Ted's thing was getting away with as little wing & control surface area as possible, cut drag....as a result, all 3 birds,... B-26, Aerostar & Commander have less than docile manners at low speed..one has to keep a big lead over them......the Commander the least volatile of the 3, the Marauder.....well,,the wrath of a Woman scorned....totally intolerant of the slightest inattention. God i WANT one! Just have to settle for the Howard 500....aw shucks...hey, it aint over till the fat chick strangles the alley cat.....reminds me i gotta call George & see if He made it out to the Howard as said last i spoke with Him.
DEA still hasn't pulled the Howard 350 out their *** that some narc has hidden somewhere....official statement...."uh, looks like we misplaced it congressman."

Yep, this is the Bird that was @CNO.

Took this photo of Super Corsair "Race 74" at AirVenture in 2012. I didn't realize until today that less than two weeks later, Bob Odegaard lost his life in this very aircraft. RIP.

Might already be listed, but I love ground support!!!

THIS F-14D #711 OF 712 TOMCATS BUILT, BELONGED TO U.S. NAVY SQUADRON VF-31.
TODAY SHE IS ON DISPLAY AT THE NORTHROP GRUMMAN PLANT AT BETHPAGE ,LONG ISLAND N.Y. I WAS AT FARMINGDALE REPUBLIC AIRPORT WHEN SHE FLEW IN FOR THE LAST TIME TO BE STRIPPED OF HER THEN ADVANCED ELECTRONICS AND ENGINES. ITS SAD TO SEE SUCK A GREAT PLANE CHAINED TO THE GROUND WHEN IT SHOULD UP IN THE AIR FOR ALL TO SEE.
RETIRED NAVY PILOT DALE (SNORT) SNODGRASS THE MAN RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL F-14'S IN THE ATLANTIC FLEET DURING HIS COMMAND TRIED TO PURCHASE 16 MOTHBALLED F-14'S FOR FLYING DEMONSTRATIONS ON THE AIRSHOW CIRCUIT. BUT LACK OF SPONSORSHIP AND RED TAPE SQUASHED THE IDEA. AMAZING PILOT /theaviationist.com/2014/02/12/f-14-buzzes-uss-america/
