Some Raptor stuff I shot a few years back out at Nellis AFB. SKI your a lucky man

i don't think the f-22 can do that. the sr-71 could out run any missile fired upon it. they said if fired upon put the burners to it and your gone. just pure awesome plane for its time.

Yes they could get away from a missile, but not outrun it. They relied on the fact that they were about 80,000 feet up and the missile short range. Even in the 60's the anti aircraft missiles were capable of 2,600 mph speeds. Faster than the SR-71 but not good enough to catch up before running out of fuel. For example, the RIM-7 Sea Sparrow would go that fast but had only a 10 mile range. The Nike Hercules had a 75 mile range but was only about 350 mph. faster than the SR-71 and so wouldn't catch up in time either.

Ha Ha,
All good points.

I'm stopping where I am.....

See?
I work F-22 Flight Test at the Air Force's Premier Flight Test Center
Edwards AFB
Retired USAF in Y2K
Been D.O.D. at the "Raptor's nest" for 16 years.

TOP SPEED is: 1.5 Mach

And yes, the MIG-25 Foxbat "R" model WAS clocked at Mach 3 over Israel in 1972
And yup, that "Ol" F-4 Phantom in 1961 was faster than the F-22

It cant outrun the missiles we have today!
Again, Ha Ha, I worked on the Hughes Falcon AIM (Both F & G) missiles that they placed on the A-12
They were slow

Quote by Photon 440: "High speed dashes in fighters such as the F-22 or that MIG-25 are not the same thing; they normally supercruise at a slower rate"

Only 1 (one) aircraft can "super Cruise"
Only one: The F-22
Super Cruise: "Cruise above MACH without using afterburner"

Not going to sit at my desk and try to explain this stuff to you guys
Reason 1: I cant
Reason 2. Do you really still think that American "know how" and technology has not caught up to the 1960s?

Do you all know that during RED FLAG, Nellis AFB, (my second home) where the US Air Force "fly's" all of it's aircraft against other nations (NATO & invited) here in the Mojave Desert for "WAR GAMES" "we" DO NOT fly the F-22?
Why?
Because it's classified.

Just know this: I just launched (as part of our team) 3 F-22s for a morning "Flight Test mission"
I'm not "arm-chair" quarterbacking.

Thanks Mopower871!
Cool picks
Great thing about Nellis AFB is they allow you to take pics (with permission)
Two F-22 flight test squadrons at Nellis
OT
WA

The OT tails designate "Operational Test"
The WA tails designate "Weapons Academy"

WA is associated with the 433Rd SATANS ANGELS Squadron
The other "OT" is the equally famous "GREEN BATS"

Agreed, that's what 'Super Cruise' means. Seems like we're going backwards, there used to be other aircraft that could super cruise but are now obsolete. The BAC Lightning was able to super cruise, so could the Concorde at mach 2. Also the TU-144. The Eurofighter Typhoon is capable as is Sweden's JAS 39 Gripen and the Dassault Rafale.

As promised yesterday,
M2-F1 pics from the little Edwards AFB flight test & research center museum today at lunch time

And the laughable Hughes Falcon AIM (Air Intercept Missile) F and G
(F is microwave guided, G is infra-red guided)
These were the first Missile systems I worked on as a young airman, 1979
Yup, this is the missile that was planned for the A-12 (SR-71)
If you look closely, the "F" bird is on the left, the center and right "birds" are the "G" models
See the IR seeker?

Here ya go!
A "REAL" Cold war dinosaur!

Check out the nice little piece of food stuck in my tooth!
Today at lunch time

A little bit of DATA on supercruise: NOTE F-22s fly Supercruise with out using afterburner,
"The F-22 Raptor's supercruise capabilities are touted as a major performance advantage over other fighters, with supercruise being demonstrated up to at least Mach 1.7.[10] Virtually all current and past jet fighters, prior to the F-22, cruise at approximately Mach 0.8–0.9 with a militarily significant weapons load.[11] However, supercruising uses more fuel to travel the same distance than at subsonic speeds, with the Air Force Association estimating that use of supercruise for a 100-nautical-mile (190 km) dash as part of a mission would cut the F-22's combat radius from about 600 nautical miles (1,110 km) to about 450 nautical miles (830 km). This reduction is unconfirmed because the altitude and flight profile are classified, as are most of the F-22's capabilities, but it is still far less of a reduction than would result from the use of afterburner

Remember: Aircraft such as the SR-71 Blackbird are designed to cruise at supersonic speed with afterburners enabled.

The difference is ONLY the F-22 can supercruise without afterburner
GOT IT?

I don't know 'chit technically" about the F-22 or F-35's
{dual task force ?}
But I think they are cool as hell, sexy looken' as all hell too,
keep it coming Ski...

Yes I agree that the sr71 might not be able to out run modern day missles. But I still like to think so, just because I'm so fascinated by this plane that was built in the late 60s and still looks pretty modern to this day. I just flat out love. I just bought my version of one. My plates are BB SR 71. USA
