The top photo is a selfie (from today) in front of a Marine CH53E helo, similar to what my Marine niece flies.
The middle photo was of the most important plane at the show - Joint Stars!!! (Also known as J-Stars). I chatted with a Marine Super Cobra pilot, a very nice young man. I asked him if his missions interacted with the J-Stars and his eyes just lit up and he was beaming! He said very enthusiastically “YES”! He loved them. He told of a story of a night mission in the sandbox box were a native was drilling a hole into an oil pipeline. He was directed into the scene to interdict. The J-Stars guided him into the zone and even when the helo pilot’s night vision goggles weren’t clear enough for him to see crap, the J-Stars team kept him updated: “yeah, the guy is on the underside of the pipe, oh, he just stopped to pick his nose...”. Very cool non-descript plane, but the pilots know what it is! The Marine Major correctly identified the plane as a “national asset”, which meant that the individual J-Stars plane was such an important asset, each individual plane has a severely important role in the nation’s ability to project our power. This is on a similar scale as an aircraft carrier would be. Kind of hard to explain. (Oh, FYI, I built the 3 bay hangar in the background of the J-Stars photo, plus about half of the buildings on this base one way or another over 22 years there.)
The bottom photo is of a McGuire AFB’s C-17s engine pods.
FYI, I love the roar of afterburners and the smell of freshly burnt jet fuel!!!
My dad’s old carrier, I think he was on when a ‘angled deck’ was added after WWII during Korean War. Guy in N.J. did it, took him 8 yrs.View attachment 602512 View attachment 602513 View attachment 602514

The B-2 was a fastenating airplane to work on as was the F-22 and you might know some Boeing people I've worked with. I even spent some time at Palmdale during the early years. Are you familiar with the Darkstar program?I work ON Edwards AFB
I'm on the F-22 Flight Test team, Dept. Of Defense civilian.
(I probably know Boeing guys that you know)
Our facility just moved last year.
The facility we were in is now becoming the B-21 Facility.
Major Construction
And, the B-2 will be supporting Americas First Line of Defense for many years to come.
Just saying.
Those are some massive fans! Reminds me of Adriaan Decker's experiment with low-rpm propellers in Holland in 1937. This modified Focker actually flew, but no word on what became of it after the Germans took over Holland in 1940.
