A Spitfire about to flip the wing on a German buzz bomb (Doodlebug).

The V-1 wasn't that effective in reality. Most of them missed their targets and they cost as much to build as a fighter plane but could be used only once. They did have a psychological effect though.

This Corsair wing folded up (failed wing lock) right after take-off from the USS Saipan carrier deck. Feb 16, 1950. The pilot did not survive.
