Why I Buy Gas/Fuel at 7-Eleven

We don't have a 7-11 for many, many miles away
that I know of anyway
I haven't been to a 7-11 in 2 decades

I was using Shell or Chevron 89 or 91 exclusively
it runs the best in my stuff up here

& my Granddad (Shell 44 years) & uncle Ron (Chevron 40 years)
both were engineers for oil co.'s
I did prefer the either Union 76 or Shell gas, back in the day
we have no Union 76 up here, haven't seen one in years either

they both said the same thing, some years ago, as sort of said above
it's just basic gas, in the pipelines & is all mixed/blended together
& the either the individual jobber suppliers, to the stations
&/or Shells or Chevrons distribution suppliers &/or tankers/transporters
add/mix in the additives that Chevron & Shell specs out,
at their distribution hubs, before it goes to the station

some of the stations aren't Shell or Chevron, just no names too

the Phillips & BP stuff 'sucks ***',
my truck (99 Dakota with a tune & various bolt-ons) doesn't like it
"at all"

Small business is the backbone of our economy. That said, most 7-11’s in this region appear to be staging grounds for Indian Immigration, usually family run with god awful wailing music pumped in. They are often in seedy parts of town too. Lots of loitering etc. It’s not easy to run a business in those circumstances. Gotta lock the bathrooms etc.

Thought they were big-gulps.

Up here our Shell premium is guaranteed ethanol free. There are other stations as well (as they get their stuff off the same truck) but you need to be vigilant and test it yourself to be certain. Easy to do with a glass jar with a marked amount of water in it!

I run Shell premium and 20% 100LL AV gas for octane boost and lead. Easy for me as I have 500 gallons in the yard.

as far as "it's all the same gas..." goes...

I can understand retailer like Racertrac and Wawa, but-

what is the explanation for companies the do exploration and drilling and sell retail?

do they sell each other's stuff?

a few that do both are:

Exxon/Mobil

BP/Amoco

Shell

In the mid to late 80's, my cars ran better on Shell regular than Exxon's regular. The Belvedere would ping on Exxon and not with Shell and the pos Mitsu would die at at light when you came to a stop and pushed the clutch in on Exxon's reg but not with Shell. But, both ran really good with Exxon's premium but not as good with Shell's premium. So, what was the deal? For years I've heard about the gas is the same between the retailers.....

It must have something to do with the platformate?

Ha.....platformate....ALL gasoline contains Platformate.
Gasoline is not a direct result of refining oil. Naptha is. Refining the Naptha results in a product called Platformate which is the main ingredient of gasoline.
Simplified definition.
Shell gasoline contains Platformate. So do all the others.

Also butane, naphta, iso-pentane and at one time (might still be some out there) MTBE.....and other additives that are usually added later on but generally not in a refinery.

I'll add my
2 cents.
My wife is been in banking for years. 7 11 has had a number of scam stuff going on. Bank accounts compromised. At least in my area. Watch your debt /credit cards.
