winter weather , so freaking tired of it already !!

I'm not a real fan of winter anymore, I hate the Devils Dandruff, now
just makes **** harder & worse for my dad, always worried about him falling
or wrecking the Jeep
& me too, constant drying the dog off & cleaning off snow
that white **** wrecks everything over a few years too, sucks
especially the redwood decks, stairs & railings, SW exposure gets hammered
albeit;
this year hasn't been as bad as some have had this season
could be a whole lot worse,
I could have to live in Canada :poke:

we "normally" average 41"s of perception (normally) for the winters,
(there's very lil' perc. any other seasons out here, I love the sun only reason why I'm still here)
sometimes it's snow, like several inches of snow for each of the 1" of precipitation falling

The last few years were brutal prior, '20-30 foot combined accumulated' for the season
we had 112" (water) of/from the precipitation average for past prior 3 years/winters,
& the winters have been long, drawn out, it's like that like 3 of every 7 or so years
but, rarely all in a row/consecutively
except for 21, 22, 23, were brutal for here, & 24/25 season has been double our average
(they claim we're still in a draught :jackoff: it's BS)

I'm not a really high elevation either
& just 20 mile more up the mountain, it was 50+ ft accumulated & on the ground
at 9,000 ft+, it was even more than that, those 3 winters, we have 14,000 ft mountains here
this is a normal snow fall here, it eventually melts off, after a few good days thank god
Sonora snow 3-1-2024.JPG

a lil' dusting is normal too
just enough to make **** miserable & dirty, wet cold
Sonora snow 12-24-2015 #2.JPG

no matter what the weather prognosticators' said, we are 200-350% above the norm
in measurable precipitation, for the norm
yeah maybe the lakes are down because they let the water just flow out to the ocean constantly
that's another story all together
western Sierra's exposure, a few ridges, 50 or so miles as the crow flies, North & East of Yosemite,
they got/get hammered

I'm in center of Tuolumne Co., not much population up here either
& I'm glad we had a mild "snow" season, this year

We got Plenty of rain thou, near double 'the LOW average' years of 41"s

Calif. you usually need elevation & cold, to have snow, of any amount
we get rain a lot up here, when it doesn't snow

25-ish mile up country
Snow in the Sierras - deep by Tahoe.jpg

it's 60*f partially cloudy today :bananadance:
not out of the norm for here from time to time in winter
& supposed to be like that up to 65*f for the next week or so
it's a welcomed change, from the wet atmospheric rivers (Pineapple Expresses) we had, several a month...

I keep a bucket out on the rail & keep track of how much rainfall/snow
or overall precipitation we get every year, we're like 72"s, 165% of norm, & still not over
Mirical March is still to come...
(we get a lot of wet in March, usually, snow or rain)
this is the norm for a March Snow & I'm in a lil' valley,
with 6,000 ft ridges around us, 3 sides
where the weather stalls over us & we get dumped on...

where my old cabin was, thank god I don't have to deal with that anymore
maybe 400+ yard from the sign was the driveway, 1/4 mile going up the mountain even more...
Over 10,000 ft

Come on Spring & Summer,
even Fall & all the acorns & leaves is better than Winters

this was a morning snow, next day most was melted off, except the deck
it's on the north side so I had to shovel it

I have a hard time feeling sorry for people that live in snow that don't move if they have the means to not live in it
I used to love winter, & if not for my father just turned 88 Feb 12th, I'd have been gone for the snow
maybe Southern Utah, St. George or Webster area a lot milder winters & still away from the big shitty's

that's my trade off, deal with winter to not be by city dwellers/assh*les

don't think there is enough money for me to put up with that !
I'm buying 150 acres next door to Wayne's place. We'll be sharing the road coming in. The first 1/4 mile will be wide enough for us to have our own drag strip. We'll be installing another hangar. I'm looking forward to my new neighbor and neighborhood.

Upper 40's here tomorrow. Got to clean my work Truck as it's covered in salt along with a trailer. Low 50's for next week!

I feel sorry for the people whom aren't as lucky or blessed if you will, to have nice modern machinery to deal with such issues.
LOL, "nice modern machinery". A $1500 dollar, 1998, plow truck and a 1976 Backhoe that decides when it wants to work...

Oh, and I forgot my 1965 Zetor tractor.. the blower is somewhere in the back 20...

The backhoe and plow truck are modern machinery compared to your beautiful mopars. No ?

A stretch, but you're welcome to come and hand shovel the 1200 foot laneway anytime!
I never volunteered to help with any snow removal I just made a statement that I feel sorry for those who don't have modern machinery to deal with said issues (snow management). No slight or criticism intended. Sorry if I came across that way.

I need a bigger snow blower !!

I won't be getting to tap my maple trees until some of this dissappears ,it's up to my crotch back there !! ( gonna freeze my balls off, literally ! )

Yeah well, I was in the blizzard of ‘74(?)in Ohio; THAT was a beatch. Telephone poles with only the wires visible. Nothing can be that bad again, tire tracks (solid ice)12”deep and you couldn’t get out of them to turn.

I have a pic of my dad and his siblings sliding down the hill under the wires on the poles at the road. Dunno how much snow it was, but it was a lot. South Berwick Maine, around ‘50-‘52??
Travis..

I have a 20 year old quad with a plow. My brother was here from Connecticut last week and got to help with the midweek snow. He was surprised at how well the quad worked. I bet he has one by next winter

No worries! Are you saying that you don't want to hand shovel the snow banks back for me??! LOL

I just get my "fur" up a tad when people seem to suggest that I possibly have more than others. I married at 20 years old, to an 18 year old that I'd started dating when she was 15. I had $13.84 in the bank and a bun in the oven when we got married. She had $1000 to her name and after ordering a matrimonial bed we found out that her Mother had froze her bank account somehow and we couldn't pay for it. We grew up together and I'm still chasing her 46 years later!

The only thing I did have was a good job as a plant engineer in a glass bottle plant, after turning Spar Aerospace down to work on their Canada Arm for 5 bucks an hour. I apologize to nobody for what I have now after busting my *** for 43 years, self employed since I was 23 years old. I've never been given as much as a dime by anyone in my life, and I have never owed anyone a dime. My Father kicked the can when I was 24 and he left me his forkin' watch! My Super Bee, he sold it to me in '79 for $3600 @ 10% interest over 3 years. Damn good deal seeing the bugger only paid $3200 for it in '69!

No disrespect, but that doesn’t sound like a good deal in 1979. Your dad recovered all the money he paid for a car he drove for 10 years plus put an additional $981.83 into his pocket. He made a 31% return on his investment he drove for 10 years. In other words he bought a car for $3200 in 1969, and after driving it for 10 years, sold it in 1979 for $4181.83.
