Would you buy this?

Not for a first car I wouldn't. A first car should be something you can beat the crap out of and not care, a first car should be a learning experience on how not to treat your future cars ;)

I do like those old body style though, would be a cool project/cruiser

That depends on the person, Doba. Sounds like this lad is not the typical teenager and may very well treat his first car right. I learned how to appreciate and take care of all of my future cars with my first car - my '70 GTX. I didn't have to beat the crap out of it to learn that, either.

However, your description does better fit my experiences with my parents' cars before I owned my first. I did learn to wrench on - and lightly abused - their '73 Ford Ranch Wagon and '77 Datsun B210.:D

That's true. A big heavy old car can be safer in a crash, but only as long as you aren't bouncing around inside that thick metal box. That's why I recommend the upgraded belts and harness. JMHO

Here's a link to a 59 Belair Crash Tested against a 2009 Malibu. Note that the driver of the 2009 suffered a slight knee injury, while the driver of the 59 died instantly. The new cars are intended to crumple. This is what absorbs the energy of the crash and saves the lives of the occupants inside the car.

For that price as long as the interior was in good shape I'd go for it. Its never going to be a big dollar car but cars from the 40-50 are very cool. Not everything has to be fast and powerful. Style has a place as well.

good buy.....those cars are starting to make the scene, due to that fact almost every one has a tri five chevy from the 50's, I love my Mopar muscle cars but I love my older Mope's too. I have a 1954 Dodge Royal with a 241 Hemi and power flite that are blast to tool around in. And as far as safety goes...you bet your *** you will die in any car with out a seat belt and real glass...not to mention a near 20" almost all steel steering wheel....there is nothing wrong with updateing a cars safety features...if you real worried about it...get a roll of duct tape and a real feather pillow and a nice patterned pillow case and make a fluff bag on the steering wheel ;)

under 2g? hell yea id drive that, its a cheap project.way better looking than the crap cars for sale today for under 2grand.Id go for it yea it aint a Mopar but...its still American!

True, and I just realized he said it wouldn't be a daily driver. Polish the paint and chrome and it would look pretty good.

Has he graduated high school yet? pull up to grad in that bad boy and the ladies would be all over you lol

I'm still on the fence on this, but here's some more pictures of the interior.

That is a nice old car. I would buy it redo the interior and put updated brakes along with a change over to 12 volts and cruise it.

It's really bugging me. I've got my oldest boy with the 72 sat to work on, and now the younger is liking this 52.
I think I can do this, and the boys are willing, but we're new at this stuff. We're learning as we go along.
I'm glad I have all you guys to help.
