You drive like a GIRL...

Wasn't it Petty that said "Skill is being able to put yourself in a favorable position at the end of the race, and circumstances will dictate the outcome."

Maybe she had a "third place car", and got circumstances dictated to her at the end.

I only saw the last 10 laps, but I do agree that the "dual car drafting pods" that have been happening in the past few years is not what I call exiting racing.

I think I prefer the 1.5 mile tracks. Not as areo dependant as superspeedways, but not as bump and grind and get 4 laps down as short tracks.

First, and I guess everyone who didn't think Montoya was a good fit for NASCAR just wanted to keep Hispanics picking lettuce right? That's such a lame *** point to make. I have no problems with anyone wanting to do anything. I just object when some body tries to jack up and over hype someone's capabilities in order to generate interest and $$$, and I really hate it when history gets re-written, such as scrubbing her failure in the 500 last year off the books to make it seem like this was her first one.

As for other drivers lying down, I don't know how long you've been following NASCAR, but that's been standard practice for decades. Once the team concept was in place, drivers were expected to sacrifice their own standings to help out a teammate. If pushing someone to first place meant you ended up in second, fourth, etc., then that's what you were expected to do. And let us not forget Earnhardt Jr.'s amazing 500 victory the year after his father died. Think he would have won were it not for getting a lot of help from other drivers?
Same can be said for alot of other sports. Look at the Ravens winning the superbowl the year Ray-Lewis decides to retire or New Orleans win after Hurricane Katrina. Ether alot of motivation or sympathy.. probably some of both. but anyways back on topic, I don't watch much NASCAR but I swore I remember in the 500 last year and but thought it must have been something else because they were saying this was her first race in the 500. I also thought it was funny how in her interview after the race she said she didn't get enough help to win or something along those lines from racers and her spotter.

Let's not play the race card here...oh, I guess we are talking about a race.

Anyone got anything bad to say about Irish drivers????

Cause I'll fight ya...right after I finish my beer...and disasociate myself from the crown...

Oh, wait...PATRICK...might ...be ...Irish...and... a girl...

Then I'll get Jackie Stewart to fight ya...or was he Scottish...or Welsh...

Don't John Force's daughters race? Aren't they hot?

you drive like a girl...LOL..., I'm not the biggest Danica fan either, I think the press/vulture/paparazzi gives her some props maybe more than anyone else, but I give her total props, for what she's been able to do, especially in the highly misogynistic sport of NASCAR, there are many drivers that finish way behind her in every race she runs, if shes supposedly such a no-talent driver, that people need to let her win or get in-front of them ??, what does that make those 35 loser guys/drivers behind her ??.... I highly doubt it's anyone laying down & letting her get anything accept "maybe" within her own teammate, that's the purpose of having these multi-car teams Man or Woman drivers, it may help her when others wouldn't ever give her any help... IMHFO I really highly doubt there's any conspiracy either, I've been watching NASCAR for many years, I actually think there was much more of a conspiracy for Dale Jr. or Dale Sr. to win Daytona or any super speedway race & especially the ristrictor plate races, then anyone else, their the faces of NASCAR & very close family friends of the France family ,NASCAR founders & track owners... The rules were always stretched for Sr. or just never enforced, he could get away with stuff nobody else ever could... I believe there are & have been some very good professional women race car drivers {maybe not in all the truly misogynistic sport & mainly because of the "good old boys clubs", especially in NASCAR"}.... IMHFO it doesn't take a pair of testicles, to drive a car fast, it takes a good car, good powerful engine & drive-train, good chassis set-up, good tire management, good fuel management, a good team management/organization, a good pit crew & a good experienced fast driver, to being able to handle that fast car, just like any man driving in the same damn race, has to also have... Humm lets see, Courtney Force, Ashley Force, Britney Force, Shirley Muldowney, Melonie Troxxel, Lori Johns, Angela Sampe', Karen Stouffer, Janet Guthrie, Bunny Burket, Alexia Deshoria & Danica Patrick, among many others too I'm sure, grant you most of the ones I listed, are mostly drag racers & I don't follow the other racing circuits anywhere near like I do drag racing, to rattle of names... IMHFO all it takes is driving talent & some financial backing, some intestinal fortitude & especially some serious dedication, some serious knowledge, some bravery & serious seat time, some great people around you & guiding/supporting you, able to talk to sponsors & acquire funding, then allot of time & money spent along the way.... If your a reasonably attractive & fit person, like Danica is, even a sexy woman, or man, it doesn't hurt your marketing abilities, it helps tremendously I'm sure... Who do you think sponsors would rather use for marketing/advertisements/commercials etc. ??, some fat ugly beer slugging "good old boy"??, or a fit even mildly attractive person man or woman ??, after all your the face of their company/advertisements, if you can even get them to sponsor you... Women can & should be able to do, most anything in Racing, any of the same things, that the "good old boys club" do, some even can do it better {Danica finished ahead or 35 other male/men drivers in that race}, not just because their a woman, if their a woman they need to work that much harder, especially in an all man's traditionally oriented sport, but not just because they are a woman, but because they have the talent/ability & backing to do so.... my $0.02 cents

Racers are judged by thier record.

Let's not confuse sexappeal with being a race car driver.
I'm sure there are guys who think Jeff Gordon is sexy too.
And he is probably flattered.

I think she's good for the sport...I'll root for her any day of the year before I root for Gordon or Johnson. I hope she takes some of the limelight away from those guys....maybe it will knock them back down a peg or two.

Bryan

Those stats say she's not bad. Look at the seasons where she ran a full schedule-

All top 10 rankings (except 2005), even in Nationwide last year.

Average finish in the top 20 in Nationwide and top 10 in Indycar.

I don't have a dog in this fight but I think John Force said it best on Twitter.

"I get that Danica got the pole is a big deal, but it is not like she delivered the baby Jesus"

Hilarious!

ILMFAO!!!!!

Danica has been racing professionally since 1998 and has racked up an impressive list of goose eggs in the win column - only one win, the "economy" race in Japan a few years ago. Hot factor=8, Bitch factor=9, Driver factor=2

Courtney Force got her professional license in 2005 and has 3 event wins and 6 final round appearances, plus was top qualifier twice in 2012. *cheerleader in high school* Hot factor=8, Bitch factor=1, Driver factor=7

Easy choice for best current professional female race driver..."baby jesus"....now that was effing funny!!!!

All NASCAR has become is a money machine. Since they have regulated the sport into oblivion making all the cars the same, they have not much else for entertainment. If the Force girls were to suddenly go over NASCAR way, they'd find themselves in the same position as Danica. Being in the public eye more than the other drivers. Sex sells. What could possibly sell better in a racetrack salad bowl full of rednecks than hot chicks drivin cars? As far as NASCAR's concerned, who gives a **** if they can drive as long as they look good doin it? NASCAR's in it to make millions. That's all they give a damn about anymore. Arguin about how good anybody's record is is irrelevent, because that no longer matters. NASCAR has turned stock car racing into a joke.

Winning gets the glory, but consistancy wins championships.

A consistant top 10 finisher will certianly prevail over an inconsistant "winner", without top 10s to back it up.

It is quite possible to win the championship without winning a single race.

Like I said before I'm not a big fan of Danica Patrick, I think it's the media that props her up too much... Now after saying that, there are really allot of haters & misogynist here it seems... Danica she routinely finishes ahead of many of her male driver counter parts in NASCAR everey time she races with them {& she use-to in Indy car too}, you don't see everyone saying "they are all lousy drivers just because of sexual identity", but yet they all finish behind, just another ho hum girl driver & all the misogynists, start saying Danica is a crappy driver, what a joke, why not give her the credit she's due ??... Opinions will vary vastly that's mine & y'all misogynistic hatters can have yours too...

Race Car Driver??? No
Media creation. Yes

This Woman was a racer and a great one at that.

Shirley Muldowney born June 19, 1940 in Burlington, Vermont [1]), also known professionally as "Cha Cha" and the "First Lady of Drag Racing", is a pioneer in professional auto racing. She was the first woman to receive a license from the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) to drive a Top Fuel dragster. She won the NHRA Top Fuel championship in 1977, 1980 and 1982, becoming the first person to win two and three Top Fuel titles.[2][3] She has won a total of 18 NHRA national events.

Do notice that none of the other women in those nascar races get any press for being a racer or a woman

I think Bobby LaBonte did that back in the day...

As a guy who looks at NASCAR and says, "They're just driving REALLY fast around a huge oval!" and thinks the whole spectacle is really silly compared to F1 or MotoGP, I have no problem with Danica Patrick. She's the only name aside from Earnhardt that I even recognize anyway.

You can tell from this picture that she is very intent on getting pole position. :)

if she really was not a pirate's dream. :thinker:

Like I said before "I'm not a big Danica fan, never have been", I do think she does get allot of media hype/exposure, it's not all her fault either, I've read quotes where "she just wants to be known as a race car driver not just a Female/Woman racer"... But I say "If you got it, then flaunt it, use what the good lord gave ya, to get ahead in life".... I don't really get it, what's all the blatant Danica hatred about ??, Opinions will vary vastly too, I'm sure... But to me it really sounds like people being completely naive, don't know or understand really, exactly what it takes to get where she is {including me}, how many years she's worked, raced, logged seat time & sacrificed for her racing career {including a marriage} or maybe it's even just petty jealousy or envy, for the most part... How many people that have commented on this tread/subject, or out there in the general public that bash her accomplishments, that are racing fans, of any types of cars trucks motorcycles etc., that have ever even been on a race track, in a real race car period ??, let alone in a race car at over 200mph, let alone take/turn or a corner at any real speed, in any kind of car let alone a race car, feel the G-force & Adrenalin rush, being cooked in a fire suit sweating your a$$ off, working the wheel, against other competitors, in an open wheeled or full Bodied car... I know, I've been {seems like many moons ago now} in a Calif. Outlaw Pro-Stock/Pro-Mod/Top Sportsman Drag cars, also in open wheel classes not as fast, driven in Sprints, Super-Eliminator 7.90, Comp-Eliminator, Super-Comp 8.90 & AA/A match racing 6.90 et's @ 190+mph & also in many enclosed full bodied cars at far less speed, "it ain't like driving down the HWY", what I've done really pales in comparison, to what she/Danica's done & I'm a freaken nobody... Danica she's making big $$$ doing what she loves & what many men {including me} would give their left nut just to be able to try to do... I do actually know for a fact, it takes far more talent & intestinal fortitude, than what most people men &/or women, will ever have or will ever even have the devotion/commitment, to all the hard work & mega travel, just to be able to, try to do it... It doesn't take a pair of testicles, to do it either, although it helps sometimes to be considered to have a "big pair" between your legs...LOL..., but it's not a prerequisit... I know, I want any of my girls {maybe it's just the unselfish Dad in me, wanting the best for them & to have an equal chances/opportunities, regardless of gender}, to have all the same opportunities as any man, if they wanted to pursue a racing career in IHRA/NHRA Drag Racing, NASCAR, Nationwide, ARCA, K&N Pro Series West or East, USAC, INDY or Sprints & even AMA/Moto-X {unfortunately none want to now, a couple did, before they got married}.... Why do so many people, especially some men, seem to feel so damn threated, buy women in racing, have a need to bash, hate, degrade, diminish their accomplishments, no matter how meager or grand, let alone them getting any of the much needed media hype & exposure, it helps all of the sponsors, all of the owners, all the drivers & all the teams, men & women alike... I really just don't get it, what have they done ??, to compare with any of the racing accomplishments of Danica Patrick ?? or any other successful woman, in any other sanctioning body of any professional racing... again, I'm damn sure opinions will vary vastly too... rant over

As far as race craft I think she's left wanting and has a lot to learn.
In the post race interview ,(when asked what her intentions where in the last laps),she was quoted as saying "if I went low I felt I'd be freight trained "

Isn't that what Earnhardt did, and finished second along with a freight train of others?

Balls pure and simple .Don't hold back.

Also helps to have a Chad Knaus.

I think she's good for the sport...I'll root for her any day of the year before I root for Gordon or Johnson. I hope she takes some of the limelight away from those guys....maybe it will knock them back down a peg or two.

Bryan

It really shows also, how much a really good team, sponsor, owner/organization & pit crew, crew-chief, tire & fuel managment, can make a big difference, for any capable & qualified driver, man or woman...

Monday morning quarterbacking, personal opinions and $2.00 will get you a cup of coffee and nothing more...
