So buy another sender? Any one sell a GOOD one?Usually nothing wrong with the gauge, it's the new repop senders that everyone is fighting as the rheostat isn't wrapped correctly.
I grounded sender from where wire attaches to it to body, fuel gage went to full....unhook ground, gage goes empty...should b about 1/2 tank presently....replaced voltage limiter tooLike Hen's teeth to find. Easy to verify your gauge works, just ground the sender wire to see it sweep, or better yet put a 10 ohm resister between the wire and ground and it should say full.
I assume u would have to empty tank and remove sender unit to check that?Make sure to check your float. When my gauge began to mark empty for no reason, I later found the float had filled with fuel, making it ineffective as a float thereafter.
I clipped a wire to the terminal on the sender.....(original wire left on), and ran to fresh body ground on frame....So there is nothing wrong with your gauge. Are you grounding the sender wire back at the tank.. or at the instrument panel. If panel, do it at the tank end to make sure you don't just have a wire issue. If your gauges work, your voltage limiter is fine and didn't need replacing.
Will do! Unfortunately will be tomorrow nite, but stay tuned and thanks again!Okay good, now make sure you have a zero ohm ground path from the tanks SENDER HOUSING to the frame. There's a bonding "clip" about 6" long that should go from the sender fuel outlet to the fuel line (to cross the rubber joint). Sender gets it's ground from the fuel line being clamped to the frame. Quick check use that same ground point you just used and jumper to the SENDER face plate... see if your gauge now shows 1/2 tank or what ever fuel you have in it.
If i did decide to buy a new sender, is there one out there preffered? The sender can be removed w/o removing the tank.....just make sure your fuel level is below the sender opening.......
I have yet to have or hear of a new sender working properly out of the box and installed....
I have gotten one from Everyone in the industry and they are all the same.......If i did decide to buy a new sender, is there one out there preffered?
Bill Rolik too ?I have gotten one from Everyone in the industry and they are all the same.......
That's correct....Bill Rolik too ?
Well damn, I was hoping his stuff was the answer to a properly reading fuel tank .....That's correct....
