The steering boxes were notorious for coming loose because the pad that the steering box sits on is not
machined and is usually not flat! I agree that it's tight quarters down there so 12Pt. it is!
Just my opinion as a Machinist, but needle bearings are "Point Loaded" and bronze bushings have more surface area
to distribute the load evenly. Highly loaded equipment always uses bushings and lightly loaded equipment with alot
of cycles of movement are designed with needle bearings.
Now, why can't I find one of those? Very nice! You're gonna have fun cleaning that one up.

Bottom line is your gear ratio is killing you! You need at least a 3:55 or 3:73. Remember that
when you're cruising you need the engine to be above your stall rpm otherwise you make
heat.
