1964 Plymouth Savoy Build

Ok earlier I mentioned I was going to use Edelbrock Carbs, but recently found a pair of Carter 3705 S carburetors and I'm very pleased with them. These will give me a more authentic look. Going to take the tops off and check the float settings and document the jetting. Hope they work well

What a build Chuck! Hats off to you my friend!

Last week I finally got the time to go over the Carter 3705’s I got for the car. Want to check the Butterfly screws to make sure they are correct and secure. Did want anything falling off into my fresh motor. Found one secondary screw that didn’t look seated all the way in and when I just touched the screw head it broke off. They are brass screws. Also I notice the same carb didn’t have the choke plate with the vacuum pull off valve. I found new replacement ones on line along with new replacement screws. Drilled and taped all the screws out and removed the shaft. Cleaned it and made sure it moved smoothly because before it would stick and the spring did not have enough tension to close it. Probably because the butterfly valve not centered because of screws. Got it all back together with the new parts and gaskets. Set the float levels to 7/32 with new needles and seats. Paid a lot of money for these and still had to go through them but I want them to be right.

Now I was inspecting the second one and found a big problem. Both of the mixture screw’s ports castings are blown out. Obviously from someone over seating the needles too far. So the lower housing is junk. Im getting another 3705 lower housing sent to me and hopefully it not like this one. I’ll know tomorrow when it arrives.

Got the replacement lower housing for 3705 Carter and transferred all the parts to it from the other damaged carb. I also took not of the jetting, they are staggered with the left side with slightly bigger jets. This one also got all new gaskets and accelerator pump, made sure both had Orange Springs.

Mounted the left carb first then mounted the right. Connected fuel lines and throttle rods. Need to get a choke cable and velocity stack’s to finish it up. Will keep you posted on that

Gorgeous !! But I think you'll find that the large rivet radiator cap is incorrect for '64 and should be the small rivet style. Large rivet started on '70's.

Yep, how did I miss that? Good eye!

AMD sells the correct cap but I'm sure there are others.

That I wouldn't be so sure of, they list both as '64 and up and unsure of their source. Richard worked to get correct small rivets made with some others. Jamie at Megaparts has them for sale as well and would be my supply choice, with Richard on the sidelines currently with other obligations.
