My 67 GTX was running hot and I was getting overflow from the radiator cap.
I saw the radiator was pretty well clogged up so I removed it and sent it out to be reconditioned by a reputable shop. I changed the t-stat, hoses, radiator cap and re-installed the radiator w/new coolant.
The car now runs well and the cooling system held pressure with no leaks.
After a couple of days I checked under the hood and the upper radiator hose was collapsed; kind of sucked in. I removed the radiator cap and this must have vented the system and the upper hose returned to normal. I checked the coolant level; it was a little low so I topped it off.
Was this condition normal; maybe just had air in the system? And yes, I installed the new t-stat right side up.
Thanks for any commentary.

Your radiator cap is not letting air back in on cool down. It is either stuck or you need a new one.

Thanks, I'm going to try another radiator cap and I'll let you know how it turns out.
