1967 Satellite "barn find"

Man what a sweet project and great one to start with. I will be following this thread closely. Just wish my 66 was in as good of shape to start with. I have a lot more work to do on mine but I will get to this point sometime soon. Very very nice!!

Update time. We got the car back from media blast - no real surprises. We spent the better part of the day removing buckets of blasting material. The car had a bit of filler around the rear quarters and some pinholes in the driver's floor but we're WAY ahead of the game. We spent some time mocking up the Dana with the rear 4-link and fitting the XV subframe connectors. Here are a few photos with more to follow later this week.

Short update: Spent a little time in the past week setting up the rear 4-link and AlterKtion front. Had to remove some brackets and grind some edges. We then started on splitting the tubs to maximize available space out back.

Need one outer wheelhouse which is not available anywhere I can find. One of the joys of working a car one year too early I suppose.

For outer wheel houses I was told that 68s will work with a little messaging. I plan to make my own outers to as you call it maximize available space out back.
I like the 4-link set up you have too. I was thinking about Caltrac split mono leafs and Caltrac bars. But now I'm not too sure.Did you narrow the rear end any?... Nice work!

Thanks for confirming - I heard that too and I've ordered one for a 68 - I'll post up how well it fits and what we have to do to get it to work. The rear is close to stock length - although I can't remember the exact measurements right now.

Just adding a few photos as we sort out the rear tub issues and continue mocking up everything before paint and body. The last update had a photo of the tubs split. We moved the inner tight against the frame and welded in a strip a metal. Here are a some photos of the prep and how it's starting to look. Also including a view of the space between the outer wheelhouse and the quarter panel - a view that I had been wanting to see for a while. It shows a good perspective of the "bump" that the 66-67 guys have been talking about that restricts tire size. We'll be working that out as well.

Had a few minutes to do some work this week. Did a bit of work in the wheel wells. No matter how we tried we couldn't get the exhaust to route past the 4-link and out the back with the factory trunk panel. So we cut that out, fabbed up some support braces, took some measurements and sent them off to Ricks Tanks to see what they might be able to do for us.

Starting to look like we'll have a bit of room after all.

Good question - don't know yet as we are still planning on trying to gain another inch, give or take. Once we have the "tubs" done, and the Dana back in we'll start measuring to see what size wheels, what backspacing, and how wide of a tire we can cram in there. So I guess the answer for now is... as wide a tire we can fit.

Great Project...Super solid. Looks like you have willing task force to help turn some wrenches.

i find sometimes all you need is someone to hold the wrench while your on the other side and just can't do the two. lol
