1968 Coronet 500 Project

At least I will have an original template to take to a parts department to try to match up something closer than the AC Delco that is suppose to fit.
There is one parts counter guy at my local O'Rielly Auto Parts that loves to research things like this, but it might take him several days.
How much was the NOS hose?

$60. The hose I bought says it is a replacement for the OEM number but it is just not quite right.

I enjoyed all 34 pages and the new ones to come! Phenomenal detail on the tear downs and assembly of the car and parts so far. The blister on the finger from sanding. Now that is classic blood sweat and tears in a build.

The Coronet looks fantastic....Great job!

Thanks for the kind words. It makes spending the time to do this worth it. It has been a crazy journey. I am fortunate enough to be able to keep moving and buy what I need when I needed it. I really have great admiration for those who make it a multiyear project as funding allows..... If I stopped I would have never started again :)

I am so close to starting it but I want to finish up a few details first..... Painted the condenser with SPI black epoxy primer for a tough finish.

Next moved to the backend. I have been dreading drilling holes in the virgin body but I finally did it. I did not like the Accurate Exhaust universal bracket for the dual exhaust so I bought a reproduction OEM bracket. Here is the difference. Universal on the left and the OEM reproduction on the right. No comparison in strength.

The body has the dimples for the assembly line worker to drill the holes if the car was going to be a dual exhaust.

There s a screw that screws in from the inside to keep the plate from falling back inside the car.

Now that is a strong hanger! Exhaust is done dude!

While I had the rear end up it was time to test the gas gauge. I installed a few different resistor values to verify the fuel gauge worked. A Mopar has a range of 10 ohm = full and 78 ohms = empty (or open circuit) I installed a 18 and 40 ohm resistor and it read 3/4 ish and 1/4 ish so it is functional. That is why I put the connector at the fuel gauge :)

Next I finished mounting the fuel lines for EFI. I routed them around the exhaust bracket and drilled a new hole in the shock frame and used the original bolt from the steel line.

Installed the KYB Shocks.

Lastly I installed all the body plugs in the rear of the car and buttoned it up for the last time (I hope)

How many Pennsylvania B-Bodies can say they have the original trunk and floor pans! Now that I understand this hobby more I can appreciate how absolutely fortunate and lucky I was to find this car in this condition....

Finished up cleaning and painting the rest of the trim acorn nuts and installed them.

Now how the heck does this jack work.... It is very probable this is the original F78 spare tire...

A little work on the AC lines now that I have the Condenser in.

After jacking up the front of the car I finished up connecting the Glen-ray radiator and installed the KYB Shocks and did an eyeballed toe in adjustment.

I am done for the day. It is hot in the garage today (85 outside) and I bought some beer as a treat. Have not had any in many months. Tastes good....

That jack hold down bracket goes down something like this. My bracket is a 1 of 1 experimental piece that I found in my scrap pile!

Did not do much on the Coronet today as we spent the morning in town and the youngest was sick at home but I did get the last fabrication item finished. Most of the afternoon was spent power washing the house to prepare to paint it but I got tired that that and went back to the Coronet. I bought a throttle cable bracket from a FBBO member (Wolfie's Cars) that had already had the shelf area cut and welded on reversed for some sort of 4 barrel. I mocked up the throttle and decided that the place the cable clamp needed to go was 1.5" higher and 1.5" forward. I made some templates and cut out a piece of flat stock I had and welded it up..

After welding it up I shot it with the sand blaster and painted it cast blast instead of red.

So here we go. It works quite well and will get the plates .....almost.... wide open without a problem. If you stomp it it will overcome the last few degrees and go WOT.... My daughter it pressing the peddle with her hand and she was not really getting into it...

If you have checked everything at least twice you need to fire it up! I do not want you to rush in if you have not.

Check your transmission lines too!

Jim-is it running yet?? Really need to lose that black breather cap, I still have my oem chrome one, lol. $84 at Classic for a repop? whoa.
