1968 Plymouth GTX

I am having trouble finding chrome door lock knobs that fit my car.

Gone through two sets that claimed to be for it but they are too large in diameter. Most don't give a detailed measurements of the knobs, so I am forced to go by description and pictures.

I have one of the original (?) knobs that came with the car and it measures 5/16" in diameter about 3/4 of the way up and only has a very slight taper to it.
I went through the same problem with my restored ‘69 A33 car. I ended up sawing about a quarter inch off a pair of reproductions, and it worked. A dice roll, I threw a few other sets away, when I couldn’t cobble them to fit. Baby Blue and my current car had NOS installed. The reproductions don’t come close.

I call it a striker or latch.

Mine has this one

Friggin PITA it was to adjust so it wouldn't pop open the door every time I hit a bump.
That's what the one I ended up using. I had replaced the glove box door (still have the original but it is in rough shape) and couldn't get the lock to clear the catch. It would just bang into it because the original catch was too high.
When I get some time, I'm going to compare the two doors to see what's different about them.

Glad to hear it isn't just me. I have thrown away money on two different brand names both claiming to fit my car.
I am wondering if GM knobs will fit?

I need to buy new headlights for my car. Is there a particular brand that is preferred?

I finally finished paint the nearly 500' of three rail white fence along the front of our property.
So back to work on the GTX.

I went to install the quarter belt trim but only found 7 of the "J" clips in my parts bag. It appears that I am 1 clip short of what I need but hate to spend $35 for a brand new clip set.

Anybody have an extra laying around?

I have a box with random clips, but I cannot remember what it looks like. (sucks getting old lol)

Got a pic?

As to your headlight question, there was somebody on here a while back selling the oe-type Sylvania ones.

Thanks,
Here's a picture of one of the clips:

So here's another problem I have run into.
The fit at the back corner isn't good. I had to replace the roof skin and drip rails and now I'm wondering if keeping the reveal even throughout was a mistake?

I don't think I have any of those clips, but Ill check for you.

Here's a pic of my reveal FWIW

LOL

Looks to be about a 9/16" from the crown of the trim and about 7/16" from the edge of the trim on the inside.

So do you have vacant space showing like in my picture?
Should I plan on using some seam sealer in this spot?

I do not. If you look closely (I know with all the shininess it's hard to see lol) there is a piece of metal welded(?) there and the end of the trim has a tab that is folded inwards

I can get a better pic if you would like one.

Bought a used set of 1967 Fender Mounted turn signals.
Needed to dismantle them but wasn't sure exactly how to do it. Finally figured it out so I thought I would post some pictures and explanations.
First, I did apply some WD40 to help in the process, yet I couldn't figure out why the bulb assembly wouldn't move forward. Turns out there was a set screw underneath the disintegrated washer and sealer.
Backed the screw out and was able to push the bulb/lens assembly forward.

I tried to unscrew the lens/bulb assembly but it wouldn't budge at first. So I removed the rubber washer:

Next I used a heat gun to slightly warm the lens at the joint area and this helped a lot.

The bulb didn't want to come out at first, so I used a small pair of needle nose pliers to grab and turn it slightly. Then it slid right out.

In looking at rebuild kits, they all show the lens with a screwdriver slot in them. These lenses are smooth on the surface?
I need to order some 330 bulbs and buff the housings while I wait.

I think 68 was the first year with the slot... The bulb can be serviced without disassembling the light... The socket remains clamped in the body & the bulb/lens unscrews...
