1969 Charger R/T resurrection

I've finally made up my mind and decided to dare to be different and paint the car something other than stock. I think my 2nd choice of black is still a good one, but so many Chargers have been painted this color that they are quite common now. While I like most of the original colors on these cars, I want something that will stand out a little more. I had a test panel of the Dupont Hot Hues Coppersunset sprayed and I am glad I did. I have never seen a car in person that was painted this color - only pictures on the internet. It is lighter than in the pics. I have been looking at online. I am using Martin Senour products so need to stay with the same brand. The panel in the pictures is the Dupont and the 2 chips are what I am down to from M.S. These 2 chips match very close to the pictures I have of the 68 Charger that was posted here a couple of pages back. It is hard to get a decent picture on camera, but here are a few in different lighting. So I am at least getting close to a color decision - a few more restless nights.....

I've always loved this color and was considering it for my Coronet till I saw one that lives in the same town as I do. Can't have 2 in the same town. Its a little scary doing any color even close to orange on a Charger <Damn TV Show> but Copper sunset is such a cool color that its hard not to consider it. Just my 2 cents

Yeah I know - but at least I will have a vinyl top instead of 01 painted on the roof.

You're correct Budnicks - flag on the roof. All this talk about the General Lee makes me want to change my mind again - maybe B5 or B7 with a black roof and white rump stripe. That shouldn't remind anyone of the Dukes.

I like the Dukes, but I got enough of the wise cracks when my Charger was red to never have an orange car.

I haven't even come close to driving my Charger yet and the "all ya need is a rebel flag on the roof" or "yer paintin her orange right?" comments have already started lol

B7 is an absolutely gorgeous color, my friend mike is finishing up his B7Hemi '69 Roadrunner and when that car gets in the sun the metallic of the B7 just shines like crazy. Definitely my favorite blue I've seen

Old picture but the only one I have of it in the sun at the moment

I like orange, I always have, the special 999 orange, Hemi Orange & Vitamin C are all great colors, don't let the squirrelly Dukes crap detour you, but expect all the stupid comments too, if you do go Orange of any kind on a Charger especially a 1969, it come with the territory...

Hemi Orange is another huge favorite of mine :icon_thumleft: the comments would probably drive me insane though lol. But either way I think copper sunset would also be an awesome color

I love the golds, coppers, bronzes, all classy colors

paint it blue, put a Northern flag on the roof, and General Sherman on the roof.......

Agree, don't let the good ol boys deter you, after all did the General not look good. Even when I was working on my RR orange was always the color I thought really looked good on B Bodies. Every car show I go to that's always the color that grabs my attention regardless of the shade but the one your looking at is just sweet.

I had a sample sprayed with the color I thought I would like which was the small chip on the left in a couple of my previous photos. It turned out to be a 2003-05 Honda Element color. Not what I was expecting at all. It turns a very deep red with just the slightest shift. This color flop is not what I am looking for, and am having a hard time finding something that doesn't do this. I have a B5 RR and everyway you look at it, it is blue. This is what I want. It must be the newer pearls that do this color changing.
Just for the hell of it I wanted a spray panel of T5 copper. Martin Senour came back with a color that I think is more like T3, so I didn't have it done. That is another problem in that these companies don't have the correct formulas for the older paints and I think why there are so many different looking T5 (for example) pictures on the internet.
So the search continues. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think this part of my rebuild would cause so much grief. Good thing I'm not fighting to meet a deadline.

The last time I painted a car orange it called for a yellowish primer, the color I'm using now will have a white base. Something to think about. Good luck with the decision.

The color change is one of the things that makes the Copper Sunset such a cool color. So if you're looking for a consistent color then Copper Sunset is not for you.

The Coppersunset is actually just a base/clear color and not a 3 stage like some of the other Hot Hues colors. It does not change much at all when viewed at different angles. I do like it but will need to find what is comparable from Martin Senour.

Found this car online this morning. It is claimed to be T5, but definitely not the color I was shown at the body shop yesterday.
