1969 Charger R/T resurrection

Looks a little too GM for me. Plus where you gonna put your 440 four barrel decal?

Thought I better post an update of the resurrection. I do have a little tip for those of you wet sanding and buffing your cars - do it before you bolt absolutely anything back on the car. I've spent every evening this past week cleaning the white film from every nook and cranny I can get to and then reinstalling the exterior trim. It really did turn out nice, and hard to get the full effect in a picture. This thing had to buck a little more though. We lightly sprayed the car down and washed it between buffing steps. After opining the doors up after 2 weeks, I was greeted to water on the drivers side floor. A little investigation last night revealed a stream coming in the from the lower windshield corner :angry5:. I swear to God this thing is possessed sometimes :devil4:. So I have to get the window guy back out here, pull the trim, and load the channel with more butyl.

Sweet! She looks like glass joel. Good to see it turned out so nice for you. Kicking and bucking like a stubborn horse...won't be long and you'll be braking that filly.

Absolutely beautiful, sorry to hear about the windshield leak, what a pain. I had a leak at my back glass when I was done with mine and it had to be pulled to reseal, so I know what your feeling.

BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL ... hope you got a good lawyer cause your gonna cause alot of accidents with that car. lol

Dang it H2E . . . I think you could shave in the reflection of that paint job . . . that turned out GREAT ! ! ! !

Now it's time for me to say . . . are we there yet ? ?

Looks great in the pics, I'm sure it looks awesome in person. Like the wheel choice, gives it that 80's vibe. :toothy9:

The reflection is just awesome. It actually does a double reflection off the white garage walls - you can see the opposite wall of the garage in the car when looking at it right.

My Keystones are supposed to ship April 15th from California so I am looking forward to seeing them on the car.

Your car looks totally killer, and when you get the keystones on, it's gonna send it over the top.

Sweet! If I remember correct your going to run 295/50/15 in the rear? Do you have the tires or checked availablity? A few years ago when I got my 295's they were on world wide back order. Wanted BFG but got Firestone's.

Play day in the garage today and as luck would have it my air cleaner parts showed up from Jegs. I am happy to report that this portion of the soap opera is over and I am as satisfied as possible without being able to use a pie tin style unit.
The 2nd to the last unit I tried was made by Spectra. This model with the Proform drop base was still .75" taller than I could use, so it went back to Jegs with no questions asked.
A friend had an older Proform base that he was using on his Duster which we compared to the new one he bought for me. Come to find out the older style has 1/8" more drop built in. So he swapped me his. With this base, a 3" K&N 3737 triangle type (not the standard 3-1/16 1650), and a K&N top, I had about .75" clearance from my stud to the hood. This set up gave about 5/16" air flow around the horn. My buddy is using this on a 650hp motor.

While talking to K&N, they gave me the idea to try my Holley drop base(1.25"), their top, along with their 3740 xtreme 2-5/16 element. This is what came today. I had to shorten the 2 air tubes on the top of the carb and was able to straighten out my throttle return setup. This combo sits a good 1/4" lower than the previous attempt. It also has about 7/16" of airflow around the horn. I now have a solid 1 1/8" clearance to the hood. I can live with that, but don't think I will install my hood insulation pad on account of relying on a lot of air flow through the top.

Hell yeah! The paint came out absolutely gorgeous and glad to hear you got the air cleaner issue sorted, I'll expect a massive cloud of tire smoke shortly haha great work elk!

Yep, 295's on the rear. I had a new pair of 245/60/15 Mastercraft Avengers left over from experimenting on my RR. I will use those on the front and have got the rears sitting in the garage already.

Looks great!!! Remember wild bucking horses run the fastest:3gears:

Lookin great Hunt and I'll bet you are really glad to have the paint and air cleaner issues behind you. You must be gettin extra excited to see the near possiblity of gettin her on the street.

You dirty dog, even though I left everything off for buffing I'm still not done due to all the other things going on "can't imagine how good it must feel to be done with that". Your car is looking sweet Hunt and I hope we meat up at a show some day so I can see it in person, CONGRATS. I don't know if you have a reprint of the original shop manual or not but I read up on the window install before mine was installed and made sure the installer did as it said which is just what your saying (butyl rubber all the way across the bottom and up the corners). Don't feel bad about the car dilemmas, I think we've all had our share of setbacks and you seam to be able to come out smelling like a rose every time haha.

I had him squirt some butyl in each bottom corner, but apparently it wasn't enough. When he comes next week, I'm going to have him glue that sucker in permanently so I don't have to worry about any more leaks lol.

Good to hear she fits. Those air cleaner post's/pics's you posted should be a sticky. Seems to be a pretty typical problem with Gen II Chargers with anything but a stock height intake.
