1969 Plymouth Roadrunner Restoration

I have a Mopar salvage yard about an hours drive from my house. I'm making my missing parts list to see what OEM part make sense to purchase and what aftermarket parts should go on the car. It should be interesting/expensive

Extra care on storage of glass. Mine was removed by shop and shelved face down. In 1988. Scratches are still there. POI.

I'm gonna have to do some research on how to careful remove and store the glass.

Ok Folks,

I've been thinking about a restoration strategy that balances my budget, cash flow and restoration goals.

440 Build: (Debt) Priority-1

Due to life events, about 2 years ago, I decided to allow Performance Automotive in Bethalto Illinois to fully build, blueprint and dyno-test the 440. This is still a work in process. I am working with Gordon (the owner) with purchasing performance parts (e.g. headers, fuel rail, Holley Carb...etc). So, I still have an ongoing financial obligation to Performance Automotive. This is my top financial priority until we dyno-test and all debt is paid.

Chemical Dipping and e-coating: (future debt) Priority-2
Saves cash ($5,000 estimated) to chemical dipping the Roadrunner. I will need to prep the car according to the vendors Specifications. This will take several months careful disassembling the vehicle, photographing and cataloging each part. Moreover, I'll be creating a missing parts spreadsheet while prepping the roadrunner for chemical dipping. Notwithstanding, I'll be saving, doing side hustles and building my cash resources to afford Priority-2

Frame Jig and Sheet Metal: Priority 3

With the roadrunner properly protected from any further corrosion, I think I can slow my pace and focus on fabricating a proper Frame jig. Then I'll acquire the sheets metal compartment by compartment: starting with the trunk and working forward. This will take years to save money, acquire necessary parts and hang the parts. Goal is to completely restore all Sheet metal to factory spec.

Paint: Priority-4

With all sheets metal properly installed, gapped and dialed in; take the Roadrunner to a professional and have her painted Right!

Suspension, Engine, Transmission and Rear Differential. Phase-5

With the roadrunner Professionally painted; set the car on the K-frame, A833 Transmission and make all connections. By the way, I'm looking for an 18 spline A833 that fits a 69 roadrunner...

Interior, wiring and final touches: Priority-6
Ill' have to continue elaborating on this Priority. I've got to go to work!

I'm $13,000 in to the 440 and increasing. I'll probably have another $3,000 to commit before I'm finished.

The car was $3,500.

Just a rough order of magnitude: total cost $80,000 by the time I'm finished with what I want to do with it?

I've got updates:

I may have located an A833 Transmission. This one has over drive so possibly built between 1970 - 1976.

Main Case Casting Numbers C-99129
Tail housing C-99539
• Cast Iron Main Case & Tail Piece
• 23 Spline w 307 Bearing
• from 1970 to 1976; Tail housing used in B and E body cars.
• Seller wants $350.

I think it's a win. What do you think?

I'm getting the A833 from Clay & Sons Salvage Yard in Catawissa Mo. You guys prolly know this place by heart! I've done a fair amount of business with Clayton Kossuth.

Is there anyone local that chemical dips and does a great job? My neighbor recommend ProStrip in Indianapolis Indiana. I can't seem to find anything around St. Louis.

Performance Automotive came highly recommended by Mark Gilliam at Buds Service Center in Staunton.

Now add an additional 30-40% to that 80 grand. I’m not kidding either.
 
Clay is a good friend of mine— a stand up guy and good family. I’ve known them for many years. My friend son has a brown 69 in your area.
