2024 14th Annual FABO NHRA "Pick 'Em" Game - It's NITRO Burnin' Time Again!!!

Congratulations to 'Outlawd' (FBBO) for winning the "Top Picker Eliminator" title for the 2024 NHRA Northwest Nationals in Kent, WA, with an outstanding total of 150.5 points.
'Outlawd' (FBBO) picked the class winner in Funny Car, his Pro Stock Motorcycle pick lost in the final round of eliminations, his Top Fuel pick lost in the semi-finals and his Pro Stock pick lost in Round 2 of eliminations. His point total was also helped with ET bonus points in Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock, and with Speed bonus points in Top Fuel.
'Budnicks' (FBBO) grabbed the runner-up spot with 145.5 points.
The best FABO-player score was 'TT5.9mag' with 135.5 points

In a JFR statement last Thursday, President Robert Hight said, "There’s a good pool of driving talent out there, but obviously, we need to find the right fit for both the team and our sponsors,” when talking about a replacement driver for John Force.
Here's a list of Funny Car drivers that haven't driven for the past couple of years. I left out those who currently have other responsibilities on other teams or are out for the season on medical reasons.

Good job OUTLAWD & BUDNICKS.
Thought Doug K was going to run away from the field when he set that low time and fast speed run, but they got greedy and smoked the tires. Austin P was his usual down to business self. Thought we were going to have another JF after Capps crashed, and what was with Dave Richards hitting the wall just off the line. Jeggy is just an all around professional driver and you better have your **** together when you run him. Finally someone knocked the king from his throne in PSM. Jianna Evaristo smoked old Gaige in round 2 with that 6.704 @ 203.95 but lost it on the line. Matt S said that her bike had the latest **** in the motor and it proved it on that run. Then Matt S turns around and can't get his to start in the semis. I've seen that happen to him before . Good race overall.

Here's your usual "Tuesday Before the Event" reminder for the DENSO NHRA Sonoma Nationals starting Friday, July 26-28 at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, CA.

Please post your picks before qualifying starts so you will be eligible for all event bonus points.

Q1 and Q2 on Friday, Q3 and Q4 on Saturday. The first of the scheduled four rounds of Pro qualifying is scheduled to start at 7:30pm EDT (4:30pm PDT) on Friday.

Just like at the Northwest Nationals, there will be some short fields at the Sonoma Nationals as nhra.com currently shows the following number of entries:
* 14 Top Fuel
* 19 Funny Car (John Force continues to show as an entry)
* 18 Pro Stock (again, none of the Cuadra brothers are entered)
* 12 Pro Stock Motorcycle (8 of the entries will participate in the GETTRX NHRA All- Star Pro Stock Motorcycle Callout)

Those counts are always subject to change so make sure to check to make sure your driver picks are entered.

There's a crapload of locals there that could enter
I guess they don't anymore (or there used to be anyway)

& it's really fast when the conditions are right, marine air comes over the hill
has a great long uphill shutdown, it's safe
wonder why the count is down so low

still probably 500+ sportsman guys/gals

other than purses are not great on any category
you can't tour if you don't have a million+ sponsored 'it seems now'
no-way to make the $$ back otherwise

the Mission Foods toofasttootastey race in qualifying is helping some on Sat.

Mike Salinas was at the track at the DENSO NHRA Sonoma Nationals cheering on his daughters Jasmine and Jianna. During the event he told Autoweek that he plans on returning to the seat of his Top Fuel dragster next season following his recovery from quintuple bypass surgery earlier this year.

Wow winning bonus points for TF, PS, and PSM helped out because all of my drivers except Matt S went out early. I thought Tony S was going to get his first win in TF, but their time was down all race for some reason. Those V twin bikes of MSR really liked the sea level air here and in Seattle, as opposed to the V&H 4 cylinders that were down on power at both races.
If ocdart and I keep moving up we'll take over the top 4 spots hopefully. Lets keep it going.
 
The point reset protocol and special rules for the end-of-season 6-event "Countdown" was last posted during the 2022 "Pick 'Em" game. So, for both new NHRA "Pick 'Em" game players and those who forgot, here they are:


PLEASE NOTE SPECIAL "COUNTDOWN" GAME RULES (effective following the U.S. Nationals):
* The "pick carry over" is not in effect for the end-of-season 6-event "Countdown". You MUST either post picks for each event or "lock" your picks if you feel you may forget to post new event picks or you want to guard against your computer going down for any reason. Of course, you can always override your "locked" picks for any event or change your "locked" picks at any time.
* If your picks are currently "locked" then they will continue to be "locked". If your picks are not "locked" or they are "carry over" picks from previous events, then you MUST post picks for the next event and each following event in order to stay in the "Countdown" for the remainder of the 2024 NHRA season. Of course, you can post new picks for the first event of the "Countdown" and "lock" them.
* If you override your "locked" picks for a single event, your picks will revert back to the "locked" picks for the next event unless you post otherwise
* Following the completion of the U.S. Nationals I WILL NOT BE SENDING ANY REMINDERS TO POST PICKS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE 2024 NHRA SEASON. To use a classic drag racing saying, "If you snooze, you lose"!
*If your picks are not "locked" and you fail to post picks for any event during the "Countdown", then you will be "parked" for the rest of the 2022 NHRA season with the points you have earned up to that time.

Here's how the game points will be re-set following the completion of the U.S. Nationals:

2000.0 - "Pick 'Em" game point leader after the U.S. Nationals
1970.0 - second place player unless the point separation from the first place position is less than 30 points. If you are only separated from the first place player by less than 30.0 points, then you will maintain that lower-than-30.0 point separation.

All player positions below the second place score will be separated by 10.0 points unless a player is less than 10 points from the player in the position in front of them. If you are only separated from the player immediately in front of you by less than 10.0 points, then you will maintain that lower-than-10.0 point separation.
Example:
In the 2019 game, '64BEL' (FBBO) was only 4.5 points behind the player in front of him so he started the "Countdown" separated by only 4.5 points.

In 2019, before the point reset, the difference from 1st to 17th was 1044.5 points. Following the point reset, the difference was only 171.0 points.

By the way, the 30-point lead at the beginning of the "Countdown" is not insurmountable. In the 2019 game, the game leader following the U.S. Nationals had a 30.0 point lead at the beginning of the "Countdown", but did not win the game.
