383 Rebuild Oil Pressure

I have never had any problems runnin Motorcraft's FL-1A on any of my Mopars.
That oil seems awfully think for a new build motor, why so thick? Good Luck
Motor is broken in and has around 300 miles on the rebuild. Was instructed to use heavier oil in another forum

A high pressure pump, in this situation, will not increase oil pressure at idle or cruise. In this case, a high volume pump would increase pressure under those conditions.

The situation you describe is a little odd to me. Usually, if you have 30 at idle, it'll go up noticeably from there off idle and all is good. Conversely, usually if you have 30 at 2500 it will drop considerably at idle.

Put new filter on and idle is now around 25 and goes up to 30-35 when going down the road.

Going off memory but is there a plug in the block for the timing chain and if it's missing you will have low oil pressure? Correct me if I'm wrong.

All plugs are in block

Well this plug can't be seen unless the vally pan is off or timing cover

I'm curious what the pressures would be with a 10-30 oil, nothing wrong with the heavier stuff especially in a warmer climate but pressure is typically higher with thicker oil, isn't it?

I've had 10-30 in it and pressures were lower by around 5lbs all the way around so I changed to the heavier oil. Also over 90 degrees almost everyday in the summer so another reason I changed

Ok. My 440 is rebuilt and the machine shop gave me the M63-HP also, said that on the rebuild with less-than-factory clearances pressure was their concern. I get 30 or so idle and 70s at higher RPM...I switched to the 20/50 in a feeble attempt to maybe lessen some noise with the fast-ramp cam, not much better so next change will be back to the thinner stuff. June-sept here get lots of miles in 90s and 100+ temps.

Just a thought, I’m running 15w40 with original pump with one 1/4”,(5/16”)lockwasher added to spring and my pressure is over 65 above idle and 25-30 at hot idle. Rebuilt engine with over 15,000 on it. I think you should try different weight oil at the least, you might have another problem(?).

There are two in the pic. One behind the top gear on the left (this is the one I would think could be missing?) and one just below the gear on the left side.

If this plug is missing I believe it would starve the valve train for oil. So if you have hydrolic lifters You would have a very rough runnng engine but if you are solid lifters it would run ok for a short time.

If that plug was missing, there would be zero pressure and nothing would get oil.
