440 oil pump removal

Maybe turn the mount 180*?

If the mount and bracket are correct he shouldn't have to do anything but put the bolts in.His bottom bracket isn't seated on the K frame support!

Also curious as to how he is going to get that box end wrench out once the bolt is tightened, not much room !

A blind man could see that. That's why I said turn the mount 180*. I said TURN it, not FLIP it.

the mount only mounts one way. after wrastling with it for a few hours, i yanked it out and did a bit of investigating....come to find out that on the new mount the holes are 1/4" further away from the bottom of the plate that is supposed to sit flush on the k member....

from the back plate on the original mount to the middle of the hole is 3/4", on the new mount it's 1". :angryfire:

i figure the only way to get this mount to work is to drill the k-member hole bigger--which i really dont want to do. stupid 440 source!! wish i would have gotten the mount elsewhere. damn it. y'all know if NAPA sells these puppies?

thanks
Mario

The NAPA number is 7-05094. BUT our price on it is only $4.38, so I suspect that's only the insulator itself.

thanks, Rusty. you reckon it's just the rubber part? without the bracket underneath?

I don't know. Try your local NAPA and see if they have a picture book with the mounts in it. I know they used to have. Course nowadays nobody knows WTF a book is anymore.

Dude, that hole looks freakin HUGE on the mount on the left.

....and if you're really serious about not wanting to do this again..

holy mackerel!! nothing exceeds like excess! lol

very kewl mount ya got there Pete, but i have just a regular olde 440. pretty much bone-stock. i don't think that would give me much advantage for the $$, will it??

ya the mount on the left is the new one. it looks like the holes are actually about the same size when they are in front of you, but you can see there is much less meat between the hole and the end of the mount on the new one. (huh-huh holes and meat!!! lol)

The problem is many (if not all) of the aftermarket mounts are offshore crap and many don't survive long, even though they are "new". The Schumacher poly-locs are nice but I understand being much more rigid than stock, they can transmit vibrations through the k frame. This ups the giggle factor with a 512" stroker (where vibration is a feature, not a bug) but sucks when you're running a stocker.

My thought was the strap would help the replacement mount live a long and fruitful life. Vibrator not included.

ah. i sees what the great cornholio speaks of. it probably would be some good insurance to keep them cheap-*** mounts alive...hmmm

That's what I'm puttin on my 65. 3 dollar anchor mounts with a torque strap.

time to dust this thread off...i took y'alls advice and bought the torque strap from schumacher (thanks Pete). nice piece. solid, and the eyelet (cant member what it's actually called) seems like it's nice and fluid.

oil pump (with new o-ring) is back in, motor mount (a new one from NAPA--thanks RRR) is back in, and im sizing up where to put this torque strap now...

i followed the destructions included with the strap (first pic), but it will not sit flush on top of the k-member. i fiddled with the length of the rod (huh-huh) and with it in different positions (huh-huh) and the only way it will fit right is if i put the eyelet on the back of the tab--it's supposed to be on the other side (second pic).

****--just thought of this---i could also rotate the tab it's mounted to (towards the fender) and i may get the angle of the dangle better that way. well either way....

my question for you gents is; will mounting it this way reduce the effectiveness of the strap, or f something up?

let me know what y'all think..and as always, much obliged.

btw, here are the new M/T VC's i just bought from a member here at FBBO for your perusal...

Looks fine to me. Time to get her back together Mario, the snow out there should be all gone by now.

are you missing the piece circled in red / did it come with the kit? The angle in your install looks a little severe especially compared to this picture. I don't know if will hurt or not, but doesn't look right to me and as I imagine the motor moving toward the pass side upon acceleration it seems like to me like that angle would change and wouldn't be as optimum as it would be if the brace were straight like in the picture. But maybe it doesn't matter and they swapped out the piece shown in the pic with what you have there. ???

where is this piece.JPG

Well curiosity got me so I checked the website and looks like you are good to go as others have said

Thanks Pete, snow's gone and it was a high of 58* today...need a good rain to wash the salt off da streets, and we'll burnin' rubber soon. workin on da olde GTX'er tonight, going to get da torque strap bolted in, and its on to my new, tight box...the steering one that is. lol

thanks Tallhair, that's da pic i wanted to put up...duh!! lol

been wondering why it doesn't line up as does in the destructions...everything else bolts to the k member right, so i dont think it's tweaked or anything.

either way, im going to make da final adjustments tonight and mount 'er up!!

thanks fo' all da help guys!
