62 Belvedere 318 poly granny cruiser (one day i hope)

Your Raybestos MC36412 master has a 1 1/16 bore.... You need a smaller bore to reduce pedal effort..

Might try this one... 15/16 bore..

I thought that also.. looked at the one drdiff sells and it's 1 1/32".. i might have to try the 15/16 though. i believe that gives more pressure but harder pedal?

This is his... i know @dvw son uses this one on his race car without issue.. His also doesn't flex.. mix flexes upward a bit when i push hard. When i checked out his car it didn't move at all..

Ahh.. i just noticed drdiff offers 15/16 for max pressure..

Actually a softer pedal... A smaller bore moves less fluid when travelling the same distance, so a smaller bore means the pedal will travel further to move the same fluid volume.... Your trading pedal travel for pedal effort... If the pedal is to hard a smaller M/C is what you want unless you don't have travel distance in which case you need a booster...

Ahh.. i always get that backwards :) My pedal feels great... just not stopping well..

I think i will pull a caliper and see if the pads are wearing even before i do anything else though.. when i changed the stock pads for the EBC's i noticed they were wearing on the bottom edge of the pad and not the top (didn't think much of it at the time), i might have a actual mechanical issue. Will check that first. Which will mean more new parts made wrong..

Yeah, if you put all your weight on the pedal & maybe brace yourself with the steering wheel so you can push harder to slow down that's not a great pedal, it's a rock solid pedal cause there's no air in the system or flexing parts... But a good pedal means the car slows down with a reasonable amount of effort applied to the pedal.... Smaller Bore = Good...

That will be my next move after i check pad/disc contact pattern.... i hate that i forget stuff like that which could be important :) I mean i'm not STANDING on the brakes.. they work but no way i could ever lock up or panic stop which to me isn't good enough. Safety and all that :)

Calipers are rear mounted? The leading edge always wears more to some extent... more so on multi piston calipers.... Higher end calipers sometimes have different piston diameters to compensate....

Below is a cut & paste...

6piston_caliper

Finally, many multiple piston calipers utilize staggered pistons. Normally seen on six-plus piston calipers, the stagger of the piston bore sizes allows a pressure differential between the leading and trailing edge of the caliper. The trailing edge piston will be larger than the leading edge piston for taper wear, as there is a buildup of incandescent materials and debris that gets trapped between the pad and rotor. There is more pressure at the larger piston and it forces the pistons to close in a way to prevent taper wear on the pad.

Rear mounted but i mean the original pads were wearing toward the center of the disc not the outside, not forward/back... also just read that EBC says 400-500 miles to bed in the pads.. i have a whopping 30 miles so i might just be over-worrying as i do

Yup!! BTDT..

Yeah, i don't know what happened as i got older.... i over-think and over-worry bout every thing and when it gets stuck in my head i can't let go. Used to just throw **** together and beat it.. now i'm all "Responsible" :)

yeah.. just found this on a ferarri forum about yellowstuff pads (my car is red... so basically a ferrari)

"Just an Update - After about 150 miles and some real efforts at bedding in the pads, i am happy to report that they are good to go. Stopping power is vastly better than the stock pads and now i can only occasionally hear a very minor noise when slowing under 10mph"

Yeah the days of beat it like you stole it haven't completely gone away, but I want to know it'll turn & stop before I start the fun stuff....

If I were you, I'd get the pedal effort down cause that makes you feel more confident when driving... Get some miles on the car & re=evaluate...

haha yeah.. the turning and stopping thing right now is making me hate the car :) I would like at least one of those things to work properly... i'm crazy like that

You've put a lot of time/work/money into the car... It's at least gotta drive sorta like a normal car..

yup.. the 4.30 gears i can barely tolerate.. well i'm fine with them, everyone else does 70 in 50s here so they get mad at me :) But the brakes/steering is too much... i'm just glad this car has heat, my challenger had all the heat stuff ripped out when i got it, i would drive around with a rag wiping the inside of the windshield to clear it in the cold

If you were closer I'd hook you up with some 3:55's .. I just pulled the 4:30's out of my red Challenger... But the O/D made them very street friendly...

But yeah, steering & brakes are a bigger must have than sensible gearing..

i literally just put in the 4.30s 3 days ago :) They replaced super noisy 4.57s.... the 4.30s have a tiny bit of whine on decel but it's not bad.. i'm also running 30" tires so it's not bad at 50-60mph.. i don't do any freeway driving..

BTW.. motive is blowing out 4.30s for 742 cases for $115 a set right now...

I've never setup a set of Motive gears.. I've done plenty of Richmond/Yukon/US Gear/Strange...
I'm a big fan of US Gear & Strange (Which was re-boxed US Gear)
Not so much Richmond/Yukon...

I've set up probably 25-30 sets of US Gear... Never had one that was noisy including the 4:30's I just pulled...

Richmond/Yukon never had one that was truly quiet... Some only made noise on deceleration

Unfortunately nobody is making 8.75 gears in the US anymore...

I'm a big fan of cheap :) They are discontinued.. so for $115 over $280.. easy choice for me.. i'm sure the issue was my setting them up.. first time i have done it. Have a whole thread here with pics. Final test pattern was "Good" final assembly pattern was "interesting" :)
