68 GTX Project

You have your hands full with that one! Looks like your having fun though!

Just fully decoded my fender tag....what is "19: Wide Sill Mouldings"? Is that the belt line trim that runs along the top of the doors and along the lower edge of the rear quarter windows? Or possibly what I think is the door sill on the top of the rockers?

thanks and happy friday!

Brian, wide sill moldings are the ones that run along the rocker, just below the door. Though not commonly seen on GTX's, there is also a narrow sill molding.

Interesting, thanks for the info. By any chance are there pictures available showing the difference?

I looked all over the joint and couldn't find any. The factory parts book just points to the rocker so it's not much help.

If memory serves, the narrow sill molding is about 1.5 " or so.

this is a new one for me, long time before it needs to be solved so I will have some time to process!

Yeah, well, they look beautiful to me! You'll never get anything back except complete satisfaction when you're all done. A labor of Love.
Everything will fit perfect!

Look at that smile! You look like you're really enjoying this. Here's a pic of what it will look like when you're done!

OK, the extraction of the wheel houses is complete. Not a minor task by any means! Time to restore the donor wheel houses and contemplating the order of things / reassembly and what to do with the quarters. The will need some lower patching ahead of the opening, some or all around the wheel opening, and lower rears will need to get replaced. At least I can see what I have to work with now and need to decide if whole new quarters are in order....thoughts? I was hoping to retain the OEM quarters, but now I am questioning that desire. Also pondering if I do keep the rear quarters what to do with the undercoating. I can get it off easy enough but what to replace it with? And if I do keep it how to restore / repaint it? Ohh, all these questions!! LOL

Processing a few parts today and looking at a pile of new sheet metal, sand blasted and primed rear frame section, k-member, etc....looks sorta like progress, but need to start welding **** back together!
