Cue the cliche' AC/DC intro music,
CAUSE I'M BAAAACK!
Glad to report I haven't been kidnapped, stranded on a deserted island, or imprisoned for exhibition of speed, although I did have a little run-in with the state patrol for a little freeway leg-stretching (no really, I did lol). But the to-do list has just been slammed between chasing down every little gremlin I can find, of which there's been more than plenty, and also doing some work for.. wait for it... my first paying customer! Might be a little less glorious than I would've imagined, but the little-Rambler-that-could needed some tlc and I was glad to finally be making a few denero's off my wrenching. That one will hopefully be all buttoned up and out the door in the next week or so. Don't mind my buddy doing a brakejob on his nazi-mobile up front lol had a blast hanging with him last week while he was in town for spring break
Which also leads me to.. the (very) rough draft of the Speedfreak Speed Shop logo, and the mandatory "Laughing Larry" that will also find its way onto shirts, decals, a Superbee style stripe on Frankenstein, and an oversized racecar livery style decal on the rear quarters of the Chevelle. Thought you guys would appreciate me showing my mopar leanings with the Superbee style font, too lol
..Which
now leads me to a pretty cool development on the racing front, I've found out there's a local sports car club that puts on autocross events every month through the summer as well as.. wait for it!... a closed road course hillclimb at the end of June! So me, the interceptor, and a few friends will at last be getting our race on and reporting back with all the awesome footage we can get.
Unfortunately the Rambler money had to immediately go towards shocks for the Chevelle (ancient kyb's and a wounded rear air shock weren't cutting it lol) but I went all-in on a set of the same QA1's I have on Frankenstein, and holy hell these things are amazing! Made the mistake of putting them on click #10 of 18, and they beat the living crap out of me lol but on the advice of a friend who has them on his elco, I knocked them down to 5 clicks, and the ride is perfect! Not to mention between those, the front and rear swaybars, and the welded frame, this thing corners FLAT! :icon_biggrin:
I have some tire rubbing issues with the 255's up front, but that will be taken care of soon since the rears are already toast lol (you may now see the bookies regarding the pool on how long my rear tires would last). But after that I should be about as race-ready as I'm gonna be this season. I'm holding out for a set of the oldschool scca trans am minilite-style 17's in this eye-burningly crappy cell phone rendering haha but that probably won't be til next year
I decided I'm just going full speed ahead and knocking out the Chevelle "completely," so that means a few more months of work, but it also means trial runs of a lot of the fabrication techniques I'll be putting to work on Frankenstein, which I'll detail completely for you guys as I go. I want my feet to be completely wet before I get on with the Dodge, but I can promise it
will be epic when I get to it! Currently first on the list is a custom chin spoiler I'll be bending up out of aluminum, I decided the final product will be wider than this, but this shot is with my cardboard template painted black and installed
Also looking at doing some fancy bead-rolled closeout panels for the trunk that we'll definitely see something similar to on the Charger
But even while I'm stuck on course with the chebbie, I've still been keeping an eye out for suitable components for the monster. Scored a Hellwig 1 3/8" front sway bar on craigslist, and I'm still on the hunt for a good deal on a set of aluminum heads if anyone happens to have/see one! If not, I think I'll hold out for the Trick Flows that are coming out (tested showing over 600 hp on nothing but heads, cam, and intake on an otherwise stock bottom end 440! Plus the procharger.. :icon_thumleft: )
Also pretty excited to report my search for the perfect gauges is finally over! The Autometer ES series was the closest to what I wanted, but I wasn't really thrilled with the red backlight at night, enter Speedhut custom gauges. You can pick and choose almost every feature for pretty much the same price as a full set of autometers! Plus they have a lifetime warranty on gauge electronics, and the option to add your own custom text or logo, so the laughing larry will be making an appearance on the Charger's tach and gps speedo (you sold me on the gps Dev!)
And I'm still planning on a T56! Just gotta see how my 6 speed fund pans out over this year, but I will be saving! And hopefully I'll be back to full-on work on the Charger in the next couple months. Now I just gotta get caught up with all of your buildthreads lol hope everyone's been doing good and having fun while I was gone!

OUCH. I don't but I can prescribe a few cans of pb blaster and a bfh lol. But I have seen a couple on craigslist recently, one pretty good deal down in redding and on guy that thinks his '72 motorhome 440 is worth $3,000.. yes, with three zeroes hahaha
