69 Coronet 440 project

Now that I have a real job again and starting a new semester at school it's really hard to find time to work on the Coronet. That's the way it works I'm afraid. Have time but no money = no work on the car. No time but have money = no work on the car. I do get things done when I can like patching the inner fender by the battery tray that was pitted bad.





If that wasn't enough I decided that I really need to fix the rear frame that's not right. This was one of the first things I did and I didn't know as much as I do now so it's going to get fixed right so everything lines up the way it's suppose to. I'm going to finish building the rear section of the body jig to keep everything aligned when it goes back together. 10 steps forward 15 steps back. That's how this dance goes.


On an even happier note, I got a visit from the AMD metal fairy today with a good load of new stuff!! :hello2::headbang: Now to find the time between splitting up a network aka my job, learning how to do that aka school, taking care of my family, and sleeping. I have to sleep in there somewhere. I'm going to finish my homework and curl up next to my new quarters. haha

It's only a matter of time now. I have propane heat in the garage so I can even work in the winter.

It doesn't help when you live on the wrong side of the lake and get that lake effect snow.

The new panels look great. I must go back through your thread as I thought you had patch repaired the right rear quarter, I do recall some warping issues. Once fitted the new quarters make the finishing job way easier. I always got a buzz after a day blasting because clean metal looks magic.

Yea Im basically starting over. It's one of those things where it's the first time I've done a project of this magnitude. Doing what I've done, I've learned so much and also learned what I've done wrong. I feel much better about starting over and making sure everything is correct than trying to compensate for a part being a little off, then the next piece being a little off on top of the first one, and so on and so on and so on. I'm in too far to not have it right. Yea working is a godsend.

Sweet! 90%- Very jealous.. I only have 5%, 2 jegs buckets and a bare dash frame. I gotta buy everything else. It seems to me that the interiors may be the most expensive part of refurbing these cars.

Yes I also believe that the interior might be the most expensive part. I was on the legendary site looking at all the things I'm going to need to make these front seats right and the price sort of astounded me. The little things like kick panels don't seem that bad till you start adding up all the little things that need to get bought.

the really weird part is that seat foam is glued to the top of the original seat cover.

Wow I found this on page four. I guess it's been awhile since I've posted anything about the Coronet. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good build. Christmas has been good to the BigBlock family. My daughter got her horse mask that she wanted and a tablet.



My son got computer parts and cologne.



I've been having Christmas for about 3 months now. I found a set of Smith torches with the tanks, cart and hoses on Craigslist for a great price.



I also bought myself a Miller mig 141 and all I can say is WOW!!! What a difference in my welds going from the Craftsman to the Miller.



My son bought me a set a set of micrometers for Christmas. I can't wait to use them.



As for the Coronet I'm still working on the rear part of the body jig so I can redo the rear frame rails.



All these new toys and no time to use them. Well I'm working on figuring out how to make more time for the car.

glad to see you making a U-turn and going down the right road. Sometimes we have to see what we did wrong to know how to fix it right. I'm still putting pieces next to each other to make sure they line up before I pull that welding trigger.

Congrats, that's a sweet welder! Looks like if your out of work again (I hope not) you'll be set to go, buy up on all the little things needed like cutoff wheels, grinding wheels, etc and at least you'll be able to keep the progress moving along if nothing else. Now if I may ask what in the hell are you planning on measuring????? Some pretty big Mics in there! Good luck 61
