70 Hemi Superbird Restoration..................errr.....scratch that........

Maybe I missed it somewhere earlier but are you going to put the superbird rear window mod on it or have you already?

I bought a steel rear window plug for it. I'm less than impressed for the money spent and I'm going to take it apart and rework it. It won't look like a superbird without the window plug.

After a year and a half, how many of you "first five page" guys are still hanging in here? Lol

I'm working on the A-pillar bars. These are the most complicated bars in the whole car. The first one was....a near miss. It will make a good template for the next try.

I'm still a first five page hanging in. I've barely been on the forum since my car is on hold and trying to focus elsewhere but can't help checking back on a few choice threads regularly

Thanks Goon. I'd love to write big checks and move much faster, but that would just land me in jail when they bounced! I guess I'll keep plugging away.

Wow!! I just drove in......i'm Impressed with Your Work!! I peeked the first couple pgs & jumped to end, but i'm going to study these pages. I fabbing, paint, body Your career Hemirunner?? You've been in the trenches for a while, judging by what i've looked at so far. Well set work space....You've been around the block more than once. You got a new fan, maybe a weird one, but one Who knows enough of the game to know what he's looking at. Niiiccee!!! bc

Hey BC, glad you found the thread. I'm in the welding supply industry so I've been around a while. This is my first car build of this magnitude so I'm learning as I go. I've done lots of other projects over the years to build skills so I not a rookie at all but this is my first time with paint and bodywork in the mix. Enjoy the read!

Primo stuff HR. If it peaks Your curiosity, i can turn You on to a glas filler recipe that beats the fug out of bondoe. Structural, Waterproof, minimal shrinkage......i'd even send You some ingredients to play and test with. Poly resin makes a mix superior to talc&res bondoe, but epoxy res just shits on it all....just requires more cure time. I'd be happy to knock heads w/ You, as it looks like You, re at tje point ro start building Your substrate. Meanwhile......look up my old tread,
Filler Secrets 101......Photon440 helped out with technical info......4 pgs, last pg with pics of jeep pu fenders i worked as living examples for thread. I did them with poly resin & cab-o-sil which is adequately superior to bondoe, but the milled fibre, cab-o-sil and epoxy resin is six times as strong as a poly mix and does NOT shrink/post cure movement. I'd reccomend the epoxy for the best result.....stay with epoxy primer.....theres a lot of new epoxy primers out, but PPG DP-40 is veteran, bullet proof......been around at least 40 years......reduced, it makes an excellent self etching sealer for raw metal, fantastic adhesion promoter between base metal and substrate building materials....mixed rich, it's an excellent primer surfacer. Does not shrink.....is very resistant to elements on its own without top coat. Whatever You end up using.....Insist on WATERPROOF.
Really Nice Build HR!!

I may not be part of the first 5 pages group but am definitely a fan as well as using some of your ideas in my own build. You keep building and I'll keep watching. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Zooming Your welds.....tidy, looks like nice even, consistent penetration......the kind theres no need to grind and hide. Are You in Cali by chance? Im connected with a project car, trying to find a 'keeper' customer for it & then contract the work on it. Intend to run a good amount of pipe throughout it.......i can jig & tack it together, but id like to have a Pro stitch it......my welds are adequate penetration. but definitely not cosmetically nice....id end up grinding & molding.......would rather see consistent beads.
Not something thats going to be started for a while.....maybe next year. My bug is going to require a little steel fabbing....thats first in line. I Love to see work like this!

The SFI spec requires chromoly tubing and TIG welded joints. I have to go slow as there is no room for error and I'm really not that good at it. I consider what I've done so far as "passable" and I don't think the inspector will give me any grief, but they sure could be nicer looking.
I checked out your filler thread quite some time ago. Looks interesting.
