Last picture I was using tape to mark holes for front window whiskers ,then used my torch tip cleaner to mark center of holes and then used my 3/16 bit to drill the holes for the guides.
So I got my carb kit put it together and it pumped up to 20 on the vacuum port but doesn't hold, leaks off slowly, so I pulled it back apart and used a q tip to apply a fuel resistant gasket sealer and put it back together, letting it cure overnight and will check out vacuum tomorrow. If that doesn't work I guess I'll have to buy a new metering plate. They say they warp.
While waiting for gasket sealer to cure i cleaned the shop and bench enough to tear down the pumpkin and switch gears from a 4:55 to 3:70 ratio . Tore it down and set the preload up for the pinion bearing. Time to get, dinner and call it a day.
Put the rear pumpkin in , filled it up with gear oil, discovered that it had a fill plug installed on the top passenger side of the housing nice idea. I also got the brakes and diggers back on. Yes great day.
Well my buddy came over to help me get the engine started he was the starter man, while I was giving it a squirt of fuel ,started was going well, 180 temp. Started at 70 psi oil pressure, then dropped to 62psi,letting it run at 2k for break-in, but 18 minutes in just stopped, no noise, no smoke ,bam just stopped! Tried to crank, didn't budge. Pulled plugs no.6 plug gap was closed, uh oh , Pulled valve cover, yep water . Just that cylinder, have to check out head ,maybe gasket just didn't seal? I guess I better pull pan hope that rod is ok. The head was on the engine before no problem, but never know.
Got head pulled, checked rod not bent, taking head to check out tomorrow, and hopefully put back together. My friend came over and laid out my hood stripe and said that Saturday would paint. Yes so excited.
Well I have been trying to get the engine reassemble, but slow progress, head checked out,no cracks, had it shaved a few thousandths. All back together ready to start tomorrow, run through a heat cycle, hopefully all good set timing and start putting it in the car. Oh yeah may have found my mistake didn't remember that arp bolts have a raised rib under bolt heads and washers are chamfered and are only to be installed on one way , I had them all mixed-up and probably caused improper torque or loosening when hot?
More done sort of hood stripe painted but was glossy so rescuff and waiting for him to return and spray again. Engine running on stand all good so far, can't drop it in because car is all taped up.
Got some more done put deep sump transmission pan on , timed engine 3k rpm 32 degrees all in. I also got doors sound deadening in and door cards arm rest installed! Oh yeah and the rear stripe, had it all leveled up but I guess it moved when I squeegee it out, not perfect but might have to redo later.
Ok engine is in and I have been trying to get everything hooked up and in a much better detail than what I did just to make it to a car show and put around the fair ground. Sorry no new pics maybe tomorrow. Had a good friend and my 2 nephews help didn't scratch the engine bay this time.
