72 Satellite Gen III Hemi Restomod

I was able to determine my wire lever nuts were just bad. I swapped them out for a different set of wire nuts and that did the trick for everything except the antenna. That still wants to be unplugged and plugged back in to work. I'm going to install a switch that I think will solve that problem and also allow me to put the antenna down when I'm streaming from my phone. That will have to wait though since I'm dropping off the car tomorrow to get the AC lines made up and the system charged

I got the car back from the AC shop today. They created custom lines for me and charged the system. Now I just need to wait for a hot day to test it.

It has also come to my attention that there should be a clip to hold the mixing valve cable to the lever arm on the HVAC arm. I'm not one of those purist, so any ideas to make it stay on since I don't have it?

I bought a cheap switch for my antenna. Now when the antenna fails to deploy, I toggle the switch on and off and it works. I can also lower the antenna when I'm only using maps or streaming from my phone and don't need it.

I found a spot under the dash next to the steering column to hide it. I fabbed up a bracket. I've got paint on it drying now. I'll post some final install pictures when I'm done.

I got everything put together on the switch. It's in a nice spot where I can reach it, but not see it.

Now that the radio is in and all the pieces are working, that's the end of what I wanted to do initially with my swap. I've still got plenty to do, but it's something crossing off the last official task.

Next up is I have a new weird noise coming from the rear end. I still might throw some 392 badges on it. Power windows are in my future. My door panels are pretty beat up. They need some attention.

I figured out the weird noise was my exhaust had shifted and was touching my suspension mounts. Easy fix, but on the test drive the rear end started roaring under load. I only went for about 5 miles, but when I got home the rear end was very hot. I opened up the fill plug and smoke started coming out. I swapped the fluid in desperation that would fix it, but no dice. I guess it's gonna get towed to the gear shop for the third time.....This sucks

Sounds like too much preload on the bearings

The diff shop checked out the rear and everything looked fine, but obviously it wasn't. They put a new set of gears in and all new bearings. Let's hope it holds this time.

I had a new problem later in the day though. My tank vent lines were puking fuel. As soon as I popped the fuel cap it stopped, so the tank had become pressurized. I ran the original vapor tank in the rear driver fender, but left off the line that originally ran back to the carb. That functioned as my vent and allowed vapor that condensed to drain back to the tank. This is the first time it's done this since the build and it's been over 1500 miles. It's was the same before the build and no problems then either. I checked everything and all seemed well, but it obviously wasn't venting. I ended up taking the vapor tank out and just tying up my lines as high as possible. If that works, I'll throw a breather on it and maybe sell the tank. Oddly enough the drain appears to be the 2nd from the left, but none of them are flush to the bottom. I wish I could open it up and take a look.

So no surprise, but the rear end is singing again, now on its third set of gears (and bearings). This time it's mostly on coasting, but it's noisy at other times as well. I essentially paid a shop to do it twice. The third time they covered the cost, but they obviously can't get the job done. I felt confident that it was a good shop to do the job since it's not just a random mechanic, but a driveline shop. That said, anyone know of a place in the Charlotte area that could solve this once and for all?

My new strange S60 had a whine for the first 500miles after a couple of oil changes it disappeared what gear sets are they using i found Yukon tend to be noisy.

I would send the pumpkin to Cass at Dr Diff & get it sorted .

He told me, but it's been different every time. He tried to buy quality parts. First set was Dr. Diff.

It's a 489 case 8-3/4. I bought all the parts from Dr. Diff and brought them to the shop for installation. The next two times, the shop bought their own gears and bearings.

No, the limited slip doesn't call for it. The diff shop does add some Lucas Oil Stabilizer though.
I add it to all my sure-grip rear ends. I had a '70 Cuda with a fresh built rear that use to whine all the time, add one bottle and it went away.

I have Dr Diff's true trac II so it's different than a sure grip. No clutches, so I'm not sure that it would help.
