I assume the accelerator plate was mounted under the carpet but want to confirm. Any pics on how it was done by the factory would be helpful.
Thanks
MF

No pics handy, but the base of the peddle is a plate under the carpet with two bolts through the floor pan. If I get a minute, I can run out to my Coronet where I can take a pic. You trying to replace it?

Bracket on the firewall under carpet

Then carpet cut to clear the pedal linkage.
And hole cut in heel pad area so pedal can go down thru carpet and underlayment On the floor

Its the plate not the pedal that I was wondering about. Charles confirmed above. But thank you!

Oh so only the linkage comes through the carpet via a small home? Not the whole plate?

As posted above, I cut the carpet to leave the plate exposed. Not sure anymore; but I thought that was the way it was from the factory.

Looks like I also saw a picture (see Remchargers link) of a small hole only with the plate covered from the factory. The thread talks about the factory and that it never caused the linkage to bind up. That does concern me however.

From factory, the linkage is bolted down, and the carpet hole slides over the foot feed rod. The carpet covers the whole affair up. But new carpets aren't always long enough, so you see many variations of what people have to work with

This is how the factory did it, original carpet in unrestored cars.
The factory never bolted that plate over the carpet.
Keep in mind they drove the cars off the line with a temp seat, no carpet or seats in the car, so that bracket was installed before carpet.

Hole for the pedal arm to come through, and a straight cut for the linkage to make WOT. It looks like a wedge cut on the burnt orange but it is just a straight cut with no material removed.

Sorry to red X all you guys but the purpose of these websites is to spread correct information, not misinformation. We have CNN and MSNBC for that. LOL

Ok, wasn’t sure, so posted such in case being incorrect. Mine looks like posted by Charles Cook, decision I made installing the new carpet not liking the idea of the carpet being over and near moving linkage. I did play with it while putting the carpet in not liking the puffy-loose seating of the carpet. Not something that’s visible unless making an effort to get a view it, and looks like it belongs, MO.

I’ve seen it three different way’s. I preferred mine not to interfere with throttle cable travel. The factory done many things for speed. I’m not in a hurry so I’m taking the safe route.

Installed mine exactly as you did, but I’ll fess up…you made a nicer cut. Just MO, it looks cleaner that way. I was able to tuck the carpet a bit under the bottom end of plate so it’s locked down in there, no puffing, as it looks like you may have done.

I tend to to do okay on carpet cuts. Lol
