Anyone here Still play with model cars .

I have these 1/25th scale die cast Mopars on my microwave at work. Two of them were some assembly required the other two came built.

I have that black 68 Bullitt Charger.

It's pretty nice.
 
I've been collecting them for years. I figure when I get too old to climb underneath the real thing, I will build them....That is if I can still see all those little tiny parts!

I'm messing around with inexpensive acrylics enamel implement paint. When I get my formula figured out, I'm going to paint this diecast car. The silver trim paint is good quality, and I would like to keep it. I was thinking one eighth inch pinstriping tape might work. Is there a water base resist that could be painted on it?

None of my built models have survived our many moves, but I have several unbuilt kits I'm hoping to get to in retirement in a few years!

It is likely easier to paint over it with your new colour choice, and then re-detail it with Bare Metal chrome foil. The chrome foil is going to be much brighter than the silver paint.
 
You could try a silver sharpie . Test it on something you've painted with said paint first

Or Bare Metal foil works quite well. IMO
 
I liked building models or maybe it was the glue. Probably built a hundred, got a dozen or so trophies from contests back in the day.
I liked my models back then like I like my cars today, modified my way.
Maybe have 10? left. Here are two from the top of the box long stored in the closet, from 58? years ago. I stopped with models pretty much when I got first motorcycle and soon after I was into real cars I could drive, and then girls were soon my whole life.:fool:

My first models were old cars like Duesenberg's, also military ships and planes. I built a Color Me Gone Charger in 1966. I painted it with a brush and couldn't wait to assemble it and I put fingerprints in what I thought had been pretty nice paint. When I got older, Kmart had models for $1.47 and a nice selection of Testors spray paint and I built a lot of them. I delivered papers, shoveled walks, and did anything I could to make money to buy slot cars and models. Some were parted or built in a different direction, others died after being set on fire with model glue and Rat Chasers glued to them. Flaming, exploding Mopars.

The right number of coats of transparent blue over the white bodies would yield an exact B5 color (in my mind). The same transparent blue over metallic gold made F8 green. I had a good size box of extra parts left over from building; I kept everything except the boxes. I used parts from a Little Red Wagon kit to make a 1969 Charger into a blown Hemi straight axle Gasser in B5 with a black top and white stripe.
I slammed many. A 1969 fastback Barracuda set low with fat tires I made by gluing two tires together and wrapping with 1 inch masking tape. Painted flat black, they looked like slicks.
My folks had a good German 120 camera and I would lay in the street and take photos of what looked like real cars in front of the folks' house.

I lost everything in my room to a flood, except my slot cars that were on a high closet shelf above the water and survived. I had every color Daytona Charger Aurora made and I installed rewound motors in them. In my mind, a rewound was a Hemi. They were faster, and those motors (rotors) alone cost as much as a whole car. ($3-4) Toy Hobby had an Aurora fiberglass track. My Daytonas won some races. Those cars I gave to a neighbor kid when I was in High School. He still has them, but he won't sell them back to me.

I just bought 2 Moebius 1965 Coronets. Stock 2-door sedan and Super Stock. My hobby guy is ordering 2 more AWB for me. I can't wait to get at them. Currently finishing up Dave Strickler "Old Reliable II" 1962 Chev.
 
I was addicted as a kid, built my last one in my 20’s. Still have 20 of them or so around here somewhere that didn’t get stripped for parts or blown up with firecrackers. I used to do engine and tire swaps to satisfy my imagination. My oldest surviving model is a ‘69 charger I got for my 10th birthday. It has a blown top fuel Hemi and huge drag slicks from Don Garlits’ first rear engined dragster. The original Hilborn injected Hemi from the ‘69 Charger now resides in the bed of a tubbed and narrowed Dodge Deora. I always thought the slant 6 in the Deora was a bit lame. I probably have 10 or so waiting to be built.
