Those super fragile bullets in 22 center fires do a lot of damage and kill quickly. The idea is to get the bullet to blow up and stay inside, doing a lot of damage to the organs without exiting and putting a big hole in the hide. A face on shot just under the chin takes out the windpipe and jugular and spine, a broadside shot liquifies the lungs. Usually the shock knocks them down and they bleed out before they come to.
The next best thing is to use a larger center fire, like a 308 and a fairly solid bullet that expands but stays together and punches an inch hole on the way out. Because I’m technically in town limits and close ( a few hundred yards) to neighbours and dog walking trails I need to watch my noise and how far the bullet travels if it exits or I miss.
