lower lock pillar surgery

Here is a little New Years Day surgery to show
I sectioned off the bad

PB280027.jpg

PB280025.jpg

And replaced it with a donor piece

PB280029.jpg

here is how it looked after welding and grinding

PB280030.jpg

I did run into a bit of a snag!
If you notice the bracket with the 2 holes. This should get welded to the top of the rocker.

PB280034.jpg

PROBLEM is I cant get at it... its on the other side, under the donor piece I JUST WELDED IN! :angryfire::angryfire:
PB280032.jpg

I think the only thing I can do is to add a piece onto the bracket and have it bend to the rear. THEN I can get at it and weld it to the rocker!

Looks good Don, I have to do the same with my rear door lock post on both sides. That bracket makes it a pain, how would you weld that in if you were only replacing and outer rocker? There must be some guys here who have done this?

I think I will simply weld along the seem of the bracket.
It's a LOT easier, and should work just as good.

If I'm understanding what you're asking there - You can't remove the outer rocker with the door pillar in place, which is what's blocking Don's weld.

I replaced the pillars on both sides of my road runner with AMD parts. They went in slick as snot on a doorknob.

I just mentioned it because I've seen others here replace outer rockers without removing them.

I ended up removing that piece, welding it in place then put the door striker panel in and welded it back to that inner piece.

You might could cut a hole or holes with a hole-saw (saving the piece you cut out) where you could get in there to weld them, then weld the hole shut.

Suspension parts

Cleaned up an blasted some more parts

PC050063.jpg

Purchased the Firm Feel reinforcement kit (8 pieces)
sorry I missed one of the triangles

PC210022.jpg

the lower trangle was not in the above pic
PC210028.jpg

I welded the outer seam all the way around the k-frame
then welded on the pieces from the kit
Here are the large full washers

PC210023.jpg

Here I tacked the piece in the corner to hold it
PC210030.jpg

so I cold heat the metal, after which I hammered the middle in,
so the edges would fit better.
Then I welded it
PC210031.jpg

PC210032.jpg

PC210033.jpg

The small sliver piece was done the same way. (No heat was needed)
PC210034.jpg

PC210038.jpg

Sorry, I didn't get any pics of the other pieces as they were welded in

Looks good Don. Are you going to notch out for the oil pan as well?

Here are some pics, this is done for the bigger squared racing oil pans.

Hi ya SGT,
So your not planning on working on your car for a couple of years then?:toothy9:
Man I want to go to that meet, but it never seems to work out. Now if they had it on a Saturday that would be better for me.

You are working on things that i am very interested in seeing how you are doing it. I am at this point with my car. You are doing a great job and I am watching your progress. I will be back on my car soon and using some of your pointers.

Ha! Sometimes it feels like it... Hope to be in to the new place late spring / early summer. Will have a heated garage after that so I can play catch-up next winter if needed. :VB toast:
