Galen Govier - No more orders

I would say he probably has a few lawyers knocking at his door from the way he has taken people's money and never gave them anything to show for it. I have never owned a Mopar worth the "paperwork" and I really could care less about it it's all about driving them to me personally and some I can see where paperwork counts, Galen needs to take a break and re-organize his crap, sounds to me he got a little comfortable in his situation being "the one" and that leads to sloppy, lazy, "My farts don't stink as bad as yours" mentallity.

I have no dog in this fight, but so many of you kept going to him throwing money at him to do this & that.He might be DUMB,but he ain't STUPIT!!!!
Take the money and get to it when ya can:icon_fU:

Never met the man but from all the posts looks like he let a fun HOBBY become a job. When money becomes more important than your interest in a project its time to move on to something else. But I luv the "Peggy" reference.Plus I dont know if Id want a car worth" paperwork" cause it would never be driven. If I want to just stand & look at a car Id rather look at one someone else has spent their money on(shows).

I have a 69 GTS that was once owned by GG and it came with what I guess is his decode service, one done by him for him and one done for another owner after him. So I have two of the exact same document for one car!!! How crazy is that? I will also add that I have never had him decode anything for me and have no idea of the process, but from what I see there is quite a bit of general information regarding the 69 Dart.

If all the people who had their cars decoded over the years can get together and compare notes I bet a comprehensive list can be created from those documents. I know the white books have a lot but I bet there is more in the personal decodes. Is this some sort of copyright violation? If someone paid money to get a car decoded isn't that information the payers property? Was there some legally binding contract that states you can't share this info with anyone else, or put it on a web site (like the A, B and E forum) on a no profit basis?

nobody should have to PAY anybody to decode a VIN tag or a trim tag. there has become so much emphasis on numbers this and numbers that and document this , that it has really sucked all the fun out of the hobby. what ever happened to the days of run what brung. we never gave a **** if we were burning up the pavement with a 70 U code car or a 71 6 pack R/T . we were out there enjoying our cars and showing them off and not worried about all MONEY they are worth, and they sure as hell didnt sit in a garage 320 days a year because we didnt want to have to wash it, let alone put miles on it. its all about the money ,money and how much a car is WORTH, and not the great memories, or what these cars STAND for and what they MEANT to the automotive world. its such ashamed that so many people who dont know dick about a mopar get into the hobby NOT because they like them or love them, or know anything about them but rather what they CAN GET OUT OF THEM , and have the cash to go around dropping 5 or 6 figures, brag about how much their charger or super bee is worth, when they cant even point out a rallye wheel. touchy subject, sorry if i offended anyone, but i love my mopars for every ounce of style and performance options, coupled with the drag racing and nascar history that these cars were BRED with and NOT how much i can get out of it . what ever happen to the passion of owning these cars....sorry rant over

I have to admit that I have never understood the fascination of having your car "blessed" by Galen G.

Notice that my signature line is a subtle reference to exactly what you are saying.

I totally agree with you Super77. While there is certainly a place in our hobby for 100 point total restorations or rare originals, 99.9 percent of the people that see your car on the street or at a show can't tell the difference and don't care. They just enjoy seeing a nice old Mopar and hanging out with car people. Most people don't care if my car has an incorrect hose clamp or whatever. They just like seeing a car that takes them back to a fun time in their lives. So do everybody a favor. Don't walk up to anyone's car and start pointing out things that are not correct. I already know my car isn't 100% correct. But you know what? I'm slowly working on it, and in the meantime I'm driving it all over and having fun. Now my rants over.:headbang:

GG no more

I have to admit that I have never understood the fascination of having your car "blessed" by Galen G.

Yep I agree & an exception, only if it is something very rare & you can't find the proper documentation needed else were, through the regular channels or without a need of, or use of an outside source to help you, it's just wasting your hard earned cash...

I agree I had rather have fun with my cars than keep them lock away in a vault like a piece of gold. Who cares if every ink stamp is in the correct place.

Well said! This is why when I went looking for an old Mopar again after 25 years without one, I was happy to find my '64. I wanted something I could drive and not worry about originality/numbers matching, etc... Then when I do pull the poly and replace it with my 426, who cares? I had my '70 GTX back in the day - and I loved it. It was cool to have a factory muscle car - complete with an original Air Grabber hood to boot! Thankfully, that was back when we weren't preserving them for a museum. It was just a used car back then. A badass used car that we had a heck of a lot of fun with! Heck, it wasn't even numbers matching anyway. Don't get me wrong - I appreciate all the originals numbers matching stuff, too. But for me - I need a driver to really enjoy working on it and to just have fun. I'm really not interested in the pressure of a car's legacy.

a little off topic, as if getting ripped off trying to get your car "blessed" by GG isnt bad enough (who made him mopar god anyway) we get **** like this. people who think that anything with a pentastar on it is made of gold. these people are scum and make me sick. they think that parts off that destroyed, rusted out hulk of a charger is going to by them a new home. i see this all the time and just cant believe it, take these adds for example. i mean seriously??? people who sit on parts and sell a hood here and a fender there that are junk *** parts really need to be slapped. its crap like this that ran parts prices out of reach for a lot of people. thank god for FEBO and FABO where there are good people who want to support other members and help them out instead of trying to rip them off.

Parked my Dart at the cannery last year when I went to MATS. Come out to find a card from him that said some thing like.

"I may or may not have taken a pic of your vin and or fender tag."

Must be nice to steal from people then turn around and sell it to some one else.

GG

Well, I guess i touched a nerve with this. In my case I wanted to see how many GTX's we born at the LA plant and how many over all where in the register. I could not find a build sheet and when I talked to Diane about a year ago she said most of the cars out of LA plant did not have build sheets.
I have looked every where to see if anyone else had anything, but so far nothing. I have found some info for 1970 Hamtrack and other things, but no real information for a 69 GTX. I never needed him to decode the fender tag, as I was able to do it my self. It would have been nice just in case to see if he had a build sheet for it, but wanted to see what he came up with. It does not make my car any less or more worth it to have the info, just wanted to see if there was any history on it...I love history.
I would like to see Diane start it herself!

G g

have you tried the GTX registry site:icon_scratch:

Its my understanding that the LA plant making GTX's in 1969 model year was due to demand being so high, so, most LA GTX's were late in the year models. Mine was built June 9, 1969, my birthday except the year! So, the irony of that is cool, and, another coolness factor is my Avalanche was built on June 9 2001, another cool piece of info!

After 2 years my friend received his paperwork after he paid upfront. Honestly really who cares? Mopar world will survive IMO!
