Golden Goddess heart surgery

Well, I did a thing

Real pain in the ***, I tried cutting away a 1/4 of foam and rolling it and tried to tuck it around the edges, but it didn’t work. If you squint it’s mint.

Well, unfortunately it doesn’t seem to have held. Maybe it was just poor prep, maybe I didn’t get enough glue on it. It seems to have held at the top, but underneath and along the edges it seems to have come up

I used 3m super 77 spray adhesive. Sprayed dash, sprayed the material, waited for it to tack up. But maybe because I had to pull it up a couple times to adjust it. Or I’m using the wrong adhesive, I’m not an interior guy and I have no idea what I’m doing

I know it’s probably best to take the dash pad off, but I’m not too keen on taking the dash apart

I would think the 77 would have held. Try it again and clamp it overnight

Maybe it's contaminated, the pad that is, with Armorall? That would cause it not to bond. May have to bite the bullet and pull the pad off. Wrap the new stuff around to the backside, spray it, clamp it.

I don’t use armorall when I clean/detail the interior, I like to use spray a way glass cleaner, it’s mostly alcohol and it’s a lot cheaper.

But the only places it’s coming up is at the very edge I had to really work, the corners where the a pillar trim meets the dash that was really hard to get to, and underneath the dash which doesn’t make sense, but maybe I didn’t have it clamped together good enough

Big things are happening again on the car

I’ve really gotten tired of my half *** bath mat carpet, and the roof is really bothering me. Taking it to a car show a couple weeks ago and listening to people trash talk the car because of those 2 things, normally wouldn’t bother me because they’re a holes, but it did this time.

So this weekend my brother who can actually weld is coming over and we’re going to fix stuff.

And…..carpet! That’ll happen after all the welding, wouldn’t want the car to burn too much

Take it out of that box and lay it out somewhere as soon as possible.

From the pictures that I have seen, your car looks a LOT nicer than Jigsaw:

When I drive the car, nobody talks trash about it. It is probably because it looks so bad, people see it as a "rescue" and not a restoration. They expect all of it to look bad.
Your car is between Jigsaw and my red car, Ginger:

When your car is one color and shiny, people seem to expect more and their critical side comes out. Sometimes it is the snobs that pick the car apart, often times it is the guys that drove to the show in a Hyundai, the same dudes that can't restore a bicycle let alone a classic car.
If your Plymouth were primer or multi colored, I'd bet you'd hear fewer negative comments.
I like your car. It looks just like the cars I used to see on the road when I started driving in 1982.

We have 2 big car clubs in the area. One of them is a corvette club, they both are both mostly full of snobs that think If you haven’t spent at least $50k and have perfect paint, the most perfect shiny **** all over your car, and perfect interior, you’re not worthy. I’ve even had a guy that told me I need to sell the car because I’m not spending enough to make it look better. I told him a couple places to go.

But the biggest reason, and really the only reason I need to fix the roof is the big hole. My cars are any weather drivers, this is a little leaky. And while I’m at it, I love the 70s street freak style, I love the open and free expressiveness. And it’s the style that a lot of these snobs hate, so it’ll make them mad, it’ll make me happy. And I love when someone walks by the car chuckles, and says “this is how they were when I was young”

Seeing Chongos Bee, and a couple other cars. And talking to an older gentleman that probably huffs too much paint and will just paint something in his yard for fun, or a car. I new what I had to do. Why slap a vinyl top when you can paint. Why try to color match when you can have a ton of fun! Y’all have seen my posts in the back in the day thread, y’all know where my head is

I decided a long time ago that I wouldn't enter any of my cars in a show but went to the local 'parking lot get togethers' lots of times where there usually weren't too many snobs showing up.

Damn, if I could stand up for more than 15 minutes I’d have ya bring it over to my place and I’d put ya to work making the patches and welding them in.

I know, that’s why I had to bring my brother in :(

Hopefully you get better soon so you can get back to kicking ***!

I want graphics like that on my roof :)

How far apart do y'all live? I have at least 3 chairs in the shop that have wheels on them and use them as much as possible....2 were for welding and the 3rd chair which is an office chair was mainly for kicking back and watching a bit of TV but mostly ended up falling asleep in it!

He’s only 5 miles down the road.

It’s all good, my brother went to welding college, he’s pretty good and he loves it so I might as well put him to work

He’s pretty close also, lol! I was out in the shop today, 105f inside but the cool breeze is making it tolerable and I’ve been trying to get stuff cleaned up or repaired since my hiatus last Xmas, anyway I’m putting tools away and getting ready to call it a day and I trip. I was headed towards my tool boxes with my hands full of wrenches, toss those in front of me so I can use my hand to do a semi controlled landing and I hit both knees first then my hands. My leg strength is coming back but it’s taking the long way, so I can’t just get up. Crawl to my phone that’s playing HairNation on SiriusXM, text my wife that I fell, she comes out and helps me get up, I get to my new custom wheelchair and go inside.

Funny thing that Cranky mentions chairs. I have a chair that rolls, my stool has wheels too. So that’s what I’m in when out in the shop.

Oh…..it’s still not cleaned up!!!
