Golden Goddess heart surgery

I see, didn't realize it was an auto car
a dana 70 is pretty much a dana 60. Car is a factory 8 3/4 car, I don’t want to cut up a factory 8 3/4. And 01 dodge dana 70 I can’t sell, yes I’ll cut that up and make it fit

A 70 is a 10.5 ring gear
I see no reason to go to such trouble. I don't even see the need for a Dana 60 unless you're drag racing the car.
The 8 3/4 axle will hold up fine and weighs about 70 lbs less.
I have a 440/495 with a Tremec 5 speed and a stock 8 3/4" axle. I pound on the thing and it shows no signs of trouble. Even if it broke a ring gear, I have a good gear and axle guy and parts are cheap.

The dana axle takes less to turn than the 8 3/4. But I’m not worried about breaking anything, or max power. I just don’t want to cut an 8 3/4

Why would you need to cut anything? Are you looking to narrow an axle to use those wheels?
If so, that seems like a drastic way to use a set of wheels. It seems that it would be easier and cheaper to just find ones with the right offset. Many times, the center section and the outer hoops of wheels can be modified to change backspacing.

Not necessarily to fit these wheels, I just have this dana laying around and kinda thought about maybe using it.

Keystones, unless want to buy new, but even then they have funny offsets, are hard to get.

But it’s really just something I’ve never done and it kinda intrigues me. I’ve talked to Zack about doing it, seems interesting and he knows how, but it’s on the way back burner if at all

Years back, I looked at modifying my rear wheels to clear the humps in the outer wheel houses. Years later I swapped in a slightly narrower rear axle, Years after that I just pulled the wheels and modified the outer tubs by cutting and inverting the weird humps....No cost to me except welding wire and a refill on the 02/Argon tank.

I want to do that to my car but i already put the interior in and that 60 year old back seat is dying to be kindling :) Will be a project for another time

I didn't remove anything. I had fire extinguishers ready but never needed them.

It’s funny the big wheel wells Chrysler gave us, but they found some way to put something in the way. Still better then some fords and Chevys

Yeah, i have a ton of room for my 295s on the wheel lip. but that inner well is maybe 2.5" above the tire... nice thing is there are no sharp edges so not worry bout cutting a tire

The Plymouth B bodies don’t have the wheel opening space that the Charger and Coronet had.
When I had Dwayne’s Plymouth here, I found out how my Charger front fender could accommodate a larger wheel and tire. My 18 x 9 wheel with 275-40-18 clears my car fine but would interfere in the Plymouth. The arch in the rear opening is higher on the Dodges too. They have the same axle and the same chassis structure but that outer skin of the body just gets in the way.
Jacking up the car to fit the wheels in does work and looks period correct.
It isn’t good for handling but it does look cool.
Sometimes it is a matter of what you are aiming for. Some look at these cars the same way they were seen when they were new… a decent handling street machine. That is fine. I understand that.
Some like to integrate modern attributes to them and that is fine too.
You have a Datsun Z car for handling so you can play both games with your fleet of cars. Cheers to you.

Yeah, i still haven't figured out what front rims i want.. or a size

An 18x9 will fit but you’d need a shorter tire than mine and mine is already pretty short. An 8 inch wide wheel fits easily. A 9” wheel would probably fit better with a little more backspacing if it would clear the chassis.

I'm staying 15" plus manual steering so no big wide tires for me.. just a straight line beater :) I'm either going with slots or torque thrusts... not a lot looks right on a '62 to me

Slots and chrome moons look great to me.

That’s why I have the z car

I like my cars to have their own personalities, it makes them fun to own. The z is for handling. The GTX is to be a loud obnoxious muscle car, but the tubular control arms, solid tie rod ends, boxed lowers, and firmer steering box actually makes it handle surprisingly well. I wasn’t trying to go for handling, I just wanted to be able to thrash on it confidently with one hand, I wanted predictability, and I have it

Got everything torqued down and cleaned up, finally got it out and really got to look at it. This is the look I’ve had in my head since I was a kid, I didn’t exactly dream a gold 68 GTX, but I always dreamed this look.

I tend to sway to the 70s fat tire barely in the wheel well or stuck out because it’s a fun kind of goofy, it just makes me smile. Goofy cartoony look. But at the same time, when it’s done correctly and not too oversized, it has a tough street brawler look.

I parked it in the grass, and just stared at it for half an hour. That's what these cars are suppose to make you do. Just stop and forget about life for a minute and enjoy it.
