Mystery barn find 1968 charger. 25 year slumber. Noticed the purpleshaft while I had the distributor out for petronix. Haven't drove it yet still working on the brakes it got it fired up and trailered to the exhaust shop. I can tell it's a hydraulic and pulls about 11 inches of vacuum. Any idea what the cam sounds like guys?

Now what do I win??

I ran that cam in my Charger long ago...only for a month, was not very street friendly, so out it came...no vacuum for power brakes, and no low end driveability

I have no idea on the cam but it don't really matter it's in it and gonna stay there I was just sharing folks. I'd have to guess 484 cam myself. See how it runs once I get the new seats and carpets back in it.

Exhaust is dougs headers to 2.5 inch pipe no h pipe to summit 40 series flow bastard knock offs. To 2.5 tail pipes tucked up under the bumper

Well ... you did ask. ;)

If it turns out to be the 484, I've always liked the way it ran on the street.

Gtxexperience it's not coded for the stripe or side mouldings but you know these cars over the years people tamper with them. I will say the vinyl too is original tho and it's white

Was looking at another thread here on FBBO about these Purpleshaft Cams and came to realize that these are still produced by someone, maybe Comp Cams?? I had been under the impression that these were out of production for years now. Guess not. Anyway, the one I have in the photo is an original Direct Connection P4120235 purchased in 1979 through Herb McCandless Performance Parts out of North Carolina. It may be an antique now, guess I better hang on to it for awhile longer, even if just for a conversation piece. :drama:

wild *** guess ?
a 0.484" lift too,
not enough "bucket tee, bucket tee, bucket tee"
overlap & duration sounds for a 0.509" lift IMO

Agreed, probably not a 509.

That is exactly what the P4120235 is, 0.484" lift both intake and exhaust (with stock 1.5 ratio rockers). Duration is 284* and the intake centerline is 108*.

Not sure guys but took it out for a spin. Just not enough converter and gear for whatever cam is in it but hey I'm working with what came in the car.

It runs well tho. Got the interior cleaned up in the rear. Working on the front now.

It's all original except the carpet. I just cleaned it and painted it with Herb's matching paint in the original ember gold (68). Until the new arm rest base come in I painted them 668 gold and flat cleared them. Don't look too bad.
