The is out of the 68 Plymouth FSM

That is interesting, I never knew they did that. They did not use any resonator on the 67's according to the FSM, was it just used in 1968?

i like the sound of the originals and repops but they're 2 3/8" inside. the dyno max super hemi turbos are noisier and 2 1/2" inside. both are the same size bodies.

Recently, a Bud sold me his 68 Firebird 400 (but it has a 455 in it, automatic car)
He spent BIG BUCKS on some kind of exhaust system.
I think it is called "Xlerator"
With Pypes product (Very good by the way)
(XLERATOR® VX STREET PERFORMANCE MUFFLERS)


BUT: It sounds terrible!
I want Old School sound with the Deep rumble.

So, I am always researching....

I have the Pypes Race on my 440 you can run down highway and listen to radio, no drone.
But when your are on it they have a great sound.

Its not the Pypes, its the "Xlerator" mufflers attached to the Pypes pipes.

Do not know about the years between but the 72 Plymouth FSM shows resonator on some 340 setups.

The Mopar name for the mufflers was "Sonoflex". As states, the Walker Super Turbo mufflers are the same critter as the stock Mopar muffler. Great sound!

You can take the resonator off of a late '90s Chrysler minivan and get that same sound as you would with the Walker Hemi mufflers and the stock resonators. I know of at least two late '60s Mopars in my area that run this, and they sound closest to a stock late '60s Mopar musclecar as you are likely to get!

Flowmasters make our cars sound like Mustangs. My opinion.

My 2cents....currently have 3" walker dyno max and no tails on my 383...nice low tone at any rpm....but a bit loud at times..i think with tails it would be great sounding...i hate the high pitch wrasp too...i call it the high rpm wet fart sound.

That is called "barking" and is very common when you cut off the exhaust at the rear axle, and especially when glasspacks are used. It's a raspy, throaty sound when you let off the throttle. Old flathead Ford V8s with a pair of glasspacks sound great like this. Most other engines sound terrible, though.

These would be my choice. I believe TTI uses these mufflers.

The Hemi mufflers my Bud did the research on are called: Super Turbo
Currently owned by DYNOMAX
The are identical to the original Hemi mufflers

NOTE: This is nOT an opinion
He did extensive research on mufflers
His work was printed in a Muscle Car mag.
So, he did find that this muffler was identical to the original Hemi muffler
And the original "body" of the Hemi muffler is longer as evidenced in your first post.
If you will notice, my first response answered all of your concerns.

PS: I am running them on MY HEMI 70 Superbee

If not going with an OE muffler....I agree with others on the dynomax mufflers. I have had several sets from TTI in the past and have been pleased....

Those look like Chrysler OEM replacement Hemi mufflers doubt they're repo's because of the date code. You made a good deal! I bought a pair in the late 1980's still on shelf. I wouldn't laying in gravel.
