Here we go. One last time...

Of course, right after I hack off a couple studs and get everything bolted up, this magically appears:

Always the last place you look.
Because you don't have to look any further
The Fastener Fairy at it again.

Ok, headers finally tight top and bottom.
Next up - cut remnants of old positive wiring harness (hacked together by previous owner) outta there so the new one can be finalized.

Can't count the times I did that! If I put something down and don't "clean up" 95% of the time I can put hand on it. Only time that doesn't apply is if I don't use it for a few years.

Holy crap!

Previous owners' idea of splicing battery cables.
Oh my.

Hot today, calling it quits.
Progress:

Headers are tight, above and below.
Wiring harnesses, positive and negative cables, etc. all in place. Old crap ripped out.
Oil sending unit line, both temp sending unit/sensors and engine to chassis grounds installed.
Edelbrock 1407 carb installed (the one that came with the engine that we've seen actually running decent). Choke wired open. Edelbrock fuel line installed including pressure gauge.

That'll do for today, got too hot in there and my sea legs left me after a bit.

Another thing to mull over is if u put another spring on to bring up pedal ur going to have a bunch of do-nothing travel at the beginning push. To me that would feel worse than the pedal being lower like it is now. IMHO
Yeah, I think I'm going to leave it be for now. Less I have to lift my left foot as it is now anyways. :)

"Backless hospital gowns" don't bother me, heck the nurses/docs have seen it all before!

I agree, actually. I've worn so many these last few years that I've started having fun with them. Easy "mooning" potential with them, for example. :)
I can do without what they do to me when I'm in the darn things, though.

Side note on fuel pump pushrods:
I pulled the Comp Cams fuel pump pushrod I bought last year when I replaced the pump with one from Mancini (the "hemi" rebuildable one) from my old motor before it left here.

I matched it up with the one out of this engine and it's a good 1/8" shorter already!
Heck, it didn't even have 500 miles on it yet.
Conclusion: Not everything from Comp is apparently good.
Of course, I could have just chosen the wrong pushrod, too. Oddly, it doesn't appear to have worn off material as much as it looks like it got compressed?

Now to figure out a different fuel line for this engine. I won't be going back with rubber 3/8" line from pump to carb, that's for sure. Ethanol ate the last one up pretty quickly.

What kind of carb are you going to run?

Edelbrock 1407. I posted a partial pic of it above and mentioned it.
It's the carb that the seller ran on it and is on it in the video, so I figured it should be good enough for now.

It shouldn't be hard to find a fuel line from carb to pump.
Summit, CI ect

If you want to stay with rubber type, I hear hose for fuel injection is tolerant to todays fuels and durable. Should be available at your parts dealer.............................MO

Picked up some today. $8 a foot!
I'm going to replace the small piece at the tank and the one from the front frame rail hard line to the pump.

Yeah, but which one? Summit has a bunch of 'em and they're all similar application....
