From Hagerty Media. I have a '91 Ford F-150. Mine's a long cab unlike the photo. Mine's a 351. Only 120K miles. Runs very well. Softest ride ever for a truck. It's got some dents but that's just character. The Dodge D200/300 was listed too.

#3 Value: $9,800

The newest truck on our list was also produced in the greatest volume, making it the easiest to find. The 1990 Ford F-150’s sizeable supply also keeps the price down—another win. That enables us to consider an extended cab model with a V-8 packing twice the power of almost everything else on this list. The venerable 302 V-8 in the F-150 used a port fuel injection system just like the Mustang, and the truck V-8s can sound just as good. The eighth-generation F-Series was an update of the previous generation and the follow-up would refine things just a bit more with sculpted headlights. They’ve all aged rather well, but we think the middle of the three is the Goldilocks option with styling that is perfectly 1980s boxy. With a great design, solid mechanicals, and the ease of maintenance and upgrades offered by a Ford small-block, this workhorse is an easy pick to rationalize.

87-91 were the nicest trucks Ford made. 77-79 were probably the best as far as quality, but the 87-91 trucks were just a lot more comfortable. Some issues with electronic controls a bit in the 80's, and the AOD was not particularily great, but they were very comfortable and were dependable. The 351W by the time EFI came around was 10x the engine the EFI 302 was for the trucks. EFI on the inline 300-6 was an excuse for Ford to destroy the reliability of that engine and sell it to old timers who thought they were getting the same indestructable tractor engine the carb. version was in years prior. So a 351W 4x4, 90 or 91, with at least the XLT interior is about a nice as you could get.
Those trucks still had a flatter floor, "arm out the window" door design and the triangle vent windows. The steering column is somehow placed perfectly, wheel is where you want it and the gauges are easy to see no matter where you put the tilt wheel.

92 Ford had to put a crumple frame under it, and the 92-96 tail end of the half tons was a sad state of declining quality in both parts and build quality.
Pretty much all besides southern imports or restored trucks of that era are extinct in the midwest due to salt. A few remain but they look like hell. The dodges of that era held up A LOT better around here.

You have a nice truck there.

I was rereading my post and I said it wrong. Mine is an extended cab long BED. That may be why it rides so smoothly. Mine does have the two little windows for the extended cab. I don't think I've ever thought man I wish I had a short bed.

Well maybe when I'm trying to pull through a fast food window lane. All the young dudes are starting to like this old truck.

I do get jealous comments on the vent windows. People wish they were still around. Diesel the Newfoundland likes to put his butt on the seat, his front feet on the floor and his head on top of the dash. He's too big to sit with all 4 legs on the seat.
