How do you fund your restoration?

Selling all the crap I've acquired over the last 45 years.

I buy parts cars...anything B Body 62-70...Anything A body 67-76...occasionally the oddball C body. I do nothing with E bodies or 71 up B Bodies. I've traveled as far as 1200 miles round trip for the right deal. Key for me is to sell off a few parts and get back to even financially. I completely dismantle them and inventory the parts...when I'm done they're completely gutted shells that go to the crusher. You have to hustle it and look for cars while parting out other ones...You also need storage and lots of it. I set up at Carlisle every year and that is the only time I sell at a swap meet. In the end its a part time job...
Sometimes I may post a part for sale...usually I just respond to post's by someone looking for a specific part.
I don't have anything rare...nor do I have anything high dollar. I sell the stuff 90 out of a 100 people are looking for. A rare part also means a sometimes rarer buying pool...maybe 1 or 2 in 100.

wait till your "old and boring " then when the kids grow up and leave home refuse "the makeover" that your wife says you need .
she will walk out and you can finally spend money on you and old cars instead of the wife /kids/ house/ car/ etc etc . worked for me

Funded all of my project and hobby cars by not wasting my money on booze, drugs and whores. Only went night-clubbing once, and did not enjoy it. Rather spend an evening tearing paint of a rear quarter than getting drunk and waking up with a sore head every morning.
I do enjoy a few beers with my friends while we restore cars, so I'm not against alcohol.
Worked for my money - no Govt handouts, and extra money was cream for the nice new shiny parts.

I 've been into cars since I was 15. Before I got married most of my money went into cars in one form or another, buying, building, and flipping. It all changed when I got married, but my wife knew cars were a given in my life and has never restricted me there, a wonderful woman! We had three bank accounts, household, hers and mine, the first two always got paid before mine, which was primarily used for car work. NEVER use the household bill paying money to play with cars! I've pretty much always had one car project at a time that I kept and financed that with hard work fixing and selling vehicles and other car related stuff. I had small businesses over the years painting cars, doing repairs and selling parts and my retirement business now is selling Automobilia on Ebay. Many times over the years the car project had to sit until the money was available so patience is required.

I am "attempting" to do all of the work ( that I possibly can ) myself and help reduce the cost . . . takes much longer, but I'm learning a whole LOT of stuff along the way . . .

I hide my money in x-large Folger's coffee cans buried in the back yard.

When I'm ready to pull the trigger I hope I can find it.

As a Lineman I took all the overtime I could, sometimes 700 hrs per year. I used that for all the extras, like cars, campers, vacations, etc. I was also into the stripping/flipping thing, but too time consuming. So in essence, like others here, I worked hard. Now I occasionally custom build/rebuild carbs for some pocket coin.

For extra money I rob liquor stores, defraud widows and orphans, but the big money is in the chain of meth labs I own.:(

Just kidding. I'm like most everybody else, I pick up the parts I need as they become available. If I use plastic, I always pay it off at the end of the month. I keep 2 savings accounts, one that I live off of and pay expenses and a second one with any extra cash that comes in that I can use for cars, parts, firearms, etc. My income is very inconsistent from one year to the next, so I learned a long time ago to live within my means.

I was also into the stripping/flipping thing, but too time consuming. so what happens when you lose your looks ?

My dad always told me...you want something your gonna have to work for it nobody is gonna give you nothing. You go work hard an earn it your gonna appreciate it more. Just like moparwacko I'm a lineman also I work 1200 to 1500 hrs a year overtime. That's my play money. Sometimes it's not fun working all the time but that's what I got to do to get what I want. That's why I appreciate when I see nice cars it took a lot of work and money to get that.
