Evening fellas, Just wanted any opinions on keeping mice away from my Runner while she waits out this Canadain winter in the garage. I have sea foamed the motor, and added fuel stabilizer..... disconnected the negative. Now I wanna deal with the any mice that might make there way into the car. Any secrets out there???

Thanks all

I built a new shop three years ago. I'm also a habitat guy and store seed in my shop. I bought these electronic gadgets at Lowes or Tractor sSupply that emit some sort of ultrasonic sound that pests don't like. I also have mouse traps set. I have never seen nor caught a mouse in my shop. You could run an extension cord into your car and put one of those gadgets in it.

I have used both above, also shaved Irish Spring soap. I take tupperware containers and drill holes in the lids for odor to be released with the soap and moth balls.Moth balls work the best and smell the worst.Used them when closing up the cabin for winter.Takes awhile for the air to freshen in the spring. Dryer sheets use lots of them under hood in passenger compartment and trunk.Good for about a month or when you no longer smell them. The soap you will have to shake the containers every week to ten days to release smell but lasts for the storage season and will be reusable for years. I use the soap in my motorhome and 3 bars shaved in 3 containers are going on 5 years now. I leave the soap containers in the motorhome year round.

Been fighting the little bastards for many years. The best defense is to try and figure out how they're getting in and plug the holes. If it's a loose building, forget it.

Very good suggestions above, (moth balls and Bounce especially) use them all then supplement with a few of these.

Have used a leather object, old purse, boots, belts, leather scraps, etc. They think that there is an animal in the car. This has been borne out by a friend who has several cars in storage, none with leather seats have mice damage. My '63 Riviera with leather seats was in various storage buildings for about 15 years. The wife had left a granola bar under the seat, & they ate the bar with no other damage.

I've been using dryer sheets for years, never had an issue. Also put your visors down. Mice like to use them as a perch to get into the headliner.

Don't cover car, mice like the dark, get a 4ft Florissant light, put under the car and leave plugged in, mice don't like light

I've used those plug in electronic sound emitters that mice don't like. I have them in my barn and my garage. they work well as long as you have enough of them. The gadget must be pointed towards your protected area and coverage is limited to open areas. I put 2-3 per room and no mice, even in the barn.

All great advice!!! Thanks guys, The "Moth balls" might be a little tough to harvest... lol

nothing to add,
I just liked the RC/DH post...

My buddy "Old Joe" told this one to me and it works.....J&J Baby Powder, or talc...........the little bastards are like cats they clean and lick themselves 1/2 the time (when they are not screwing or eating). they don't like it on their little feet! nor their nose!

also, Irish spring soap (that was mentioned here) also has merit.

sprinkle it on the garage floor, carpet, along the runways , corners, baseboards, holes, climbable stuff etc.

vacuum it in spring, it SMELLS GOOD!

also, I NEVER cover my car (if you have that luxury) it makes a nice covered warm home for them, & to screw & have baby's.

old Joe is right, it worked for me:read:

BTW; I leave my hood open...

hope this helps

A radio seems to work with squirrels in my barn. May work with mice too. Noise.

D-con rat and mouse poison works well. They die and don't stink. You can check your bait box to see if they are eating it, and when the bait has stopped being eaten , you know there are non left. Mice love this stuff and will eat it before getting in your car. One feeding will kill the little bastids. Most problem is at the start of cold weather when mice move inside for the winter. ..................MO.
