I Finally Did It.....EFI

I finally gave in to the dark side. Purchased a Holley Sniper EFI for my GTX. I've been having a weird lean pop at mid-low rpm that I just cannot tune out on my Edelbrock AVS carb. Said "F' it and bought it.

I already have the Holley Sniper EFI gas tank with 255 Walbro pump and an o2 sensor installed so it should make for an easy swap. I went with the EFI 4150 550-516 unit. 800cfm and good to 650 hp. Has a built in pressure regulator and is what sold me on it.

Going to document my install as I go. I'm curious as to how my throttle and kickdown stud fit. I am assuming I'll have to tweak it.

When you get that FI system up and running you'll probably feel that running a carb is the dark side...
 
Went to the dark side 2 years ago. Got the FiTech Go Street 400. Been nice driving since.
 
I love my Terminator, fires right up after 2 seconds with a bump of the key!
Have to figure out the backfire in gear though!!!
 
I did a Fitech EFI and am very happy I did so. I was out of tunability with the carb i had and the carb I wanted was only a couple hundred less than the EFI. Made the decision pretty easy at that point.
 
You have no idea....
I remember a road leading into a car show where a guy was standing next to his FITech equipped car, waiting for the tow truck.
He was speaking with another car guy about the system.
The second guy asked something along the lines of "what he wanted from the car".
The car owner responded in frustration..."I'd like to drive it and spend less time getting towed home".
 
Nice score 'wood. Heck you had most of the work done already with the tank/fuel delivery stuff so why not!

And how many cars have you seen on the way into a car show with carb problems? Or worse a carb fire?

Few. The ones that did were easily fixed with a little cool down time or a spare carburetor. Simplicity is great when our skills are not that extensive. EFI is great when it works. I totally trust my truck and the Wife's car but given my complete lack of understanding of stock or aftermarket computerized EFI systems, fixing them on a roadside by myself is not likely.
 
I'm running a Bouchillon cable for the trans. I have an adapter bracket on my current carb that I can probably use with some mods.

What specific issues did you run into?

I’ve installed two sniper 4150 systems. One was a stock 440, other was a 505 using the Bouchillon transmission cable and throttle adapter plate with stock accelerator cable. Taller intake manifolds like Edelbrock RPM will need a longer throttle cable. No big deal though.

Nice, thanks! I have a Holley Street Dominator, 1" spacer and the throttle cable is 1" longer than stock. Still have some bend in it.

Also, are the kickdown linkage holes on the throttle arm usable or did you use another adaptor bracket?

I use the adapter that comes with the Bouchillon transmission cable kit for Holley carburetors. It has the two bolts to mount onto the linkage holes on the sniper unit and moves it out about perfect to align with the Bouchillon bracket that holds the throttle cable if you don't break it into two pieces, use it as is (one piece). Aftermarket intake manifold I also install two studs into the intake manifold on the corner of the sniper unit to help hold the bracket in place. The bracket is already drilled for the two different hole locations so pick one. You can only fit one nut onto one of the studs to tighten it down but it locks it in place and can't move back and forth. The bracket comes with one of the tabs bent over to locate it but the sniper isn't drilled to use it so just grind if off.
