89 Ford Tempo..... I have never learned so much from a vehicle I didn't want to know anything about in my life. I pretty much fixed everything until the cycle started all over again. I wouldn't waste dynamite on that heap. She met the end at the expense of a couple deer, with her black lemony soul being worth $653.00 according to State Farm Insurance. Terrible excuse of an American Automobile.

It's probably a bad thing when your Advanced Auto Class in High School picks your car for the class final. Good thing it was a winter beater.... I'm getting ticked just writing about that POS.:moparts ghost:

I had a merc topaz same car same pile :censored:

My Parents had an 81 Aries, got it new, ran great, had no problems with car at all,

and the K car DID SAVE Chrysler from extinction, they had one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel.

I hate to admit it but they were the saving grace that kept Mopar going.

GOD BLESS LEE IACOCA and the K CAR !

K car got sold many years later, still ran good , had about 250,000 miles at trade in.

Ex girlfriend had one. Similar situation, locked it in to get up my parent's driveway, there it stopped. My sister's ex drove around us, in the three foot high plow drifts, with his '81 /6 Cordoba, never even broke loose...oh, and I just put a set of BFG Trail T/A's on it for her.

Wasn't it Lee's strong-arming of the govt in that cold war era that saved Chrysler? If memory serves, Chrysler was building tanks for uncle sam in the 70's and 80's and he basically said that if Chrysler went down, there would be no more tanks to fight da commies (well soviet commies, our prez not withstanding)?
I could be wrong, but i thought i saw that somewheres...:edgy:

You know,I got my daughter an '81 Aries years ago,and drove it myself quite a bit. Was great in the winter, handled halfway decent, and had the higher output 2.2 in it. Still relatively gutless, but even my daughter couldn't kill it. A drunk driver did,but the daughter came out OK.

I'm also a proud UAW member(34+ years),so a Prius would also be my choice.

I'm also intrigued(and a little scared) by the the thought of traveling 147 mph in a Yugo. Maybe just once, for the experience and to claim that I survived said experience.

I liked my K-cars had an 85 newyorker (K-car style)w/2.2 turbo slight modify and was taking wrxs from light to light darn thing even talked just dont know why it kept calling a door ajar? a door is a door not a jar. LOL

That may have helped the situation, but if Chrysler would have failed, GM or Ford would have gladly rose to the occasion and been more than grateful to grab some Government money by building tanks or what ever else graced good ole Uncle Sam's Wish List.

Back then Chrysler got a LOAN (which it payed back early and in Full) and not a Bail (Hand) Out. There were thousands of UAW/Chrysler employees who had to choke down pay cuts and make sacrifices just to keep on working.

Lee rallied the company, raised morale, and made these people believe in themselves and what they were doing. plus the K car was just what Chrysler needed, just when they needed it. The stage was set for success, the timing could not have been any better.

so with pride and quality in mind these beaten and battered UAW/Chrysler employees built America the "Best Damn K car they could" everyday.

The rest is History, My parent also received a 1500.00 check from Chrysler about four years later as part of the "Thank You America" campaign that followed.

If it had not been for Lee Iaccoca and the K car there would not be a Chrysler today.

ok but k cars are ugly as sin

I fully Agree,...........I NEVER said they were "cute"

The funny thing is I saw a fully restored 4 door Aries on ebay a while back and it didn't have the standard 2.2, It was "Special", it had the "Super Rare" 2.6 Hemi engine, sounds like someone is trying to cash in on the Hemi name again :rolling:
