Icelandic girl fights for right to her own name

wow ,sounds like Wisconsin in the winter if you dont own a sled or deer hunt ,or :laughing7:lol

On one hand, I have a new found like of Icelandic girls. On the other hand, why do people name their kids goofy names? Or spell a common name differently just to make a bullshit statement. What the hell is wrong with John, Joe, Mary,Sue or whatever. It's all bullshit trying to be unique. Not.

Just watch the local news in any bigger city and you see some of the most ridiculous bastardization of names as they go through the local crime wave from the day before.

look at the college football and pro football players names. Key and Peele ( a black comedy team) did a take off on that subject on their show. extremely halarious if you seen it! i call those people with stupid names that cant be pronounced "SQUIDKEESHAS ".....dont ask!:headbang:

Indian son asks his father "How do we get ours names father?" Father says"We walk out tepee after you are born and name child after first thing we see.Why do you ask 2dogsscrewing?" Just saying LOL

Did I read this right???!! http://news.yahoo.com/icelandic-girl-fights-her-own-name-074758814.html

I used to work with an Icelandic girl and got a glimpse into that culture. I asked her what people do (as in what do you do for fun, etc..) in Iceland. She said without hesitation "We eat drink and screw because there is nothing else to do".

That's a fact! Especially the drinking part. I was up at NAF Keflavik for awhile, and we would get patted down every time we went out the gate to make sure we weren't carrying any booze out to the locals. We never got searched on the way back, but always going out because the government was trying to put some kind of cap on alcohol consumption. Good luck with that! :)

Not sure about the cap on alcohol consumption because drinking is a favorite pass time! They probably don't want to flood the market with tax free stuff! Agusta said all the parties over there are BYOB because the taxes on the alcohol are insane and most individuals can't afford to supply a house full of drunk Icelanders. At least I got the recipe for Icelandic pancakes along with the appropriate cookware! The pancake is sort of a tradition after partying all night and at some point maybe around 4:00 AM they start cooking - then probably drink more. I don't think anyone parties more hardy than Icelanders! Because there is nothing else to do.

Meeps, it sounds like we need to go to visit Iceland in the winter every once in a while..LOL......., I wonder if I could even pronounce, many of the names thou ??

"officials maintain will protect children from embarrassment." Yeah, because suing your country and having it make national headlines isn't embarrassing.Way to go guys.

Oh man, you have no idea. My wife works for the office of the public defender juvenile division in Baltimore City. You guys would not even believe the names. Jazzaquarium is probably my favorite. But I kid you not, she had a "client" named shi'thead, Prounounced sha tayed. but spelled **** head.

Shi thead? We have one out here in western Kansas. Sha- thead spelled Sh!thead. Another of my favorites is Female pronounced Fa-Molly

"So many strange names have been allowed, which makes this even more frustrating because Blaer is a perfectly Icelandic name," Eidsdottir said. "It seems like a basic human right to be able to name your child what you want, especially if it doesn't harm your child in any way."

I agree...

the children are the ones that suffer, when they're named some weird name, children are just relentless & ruthless with each other with all the typical pier pressure & teasing...

Well, I have a 6' tall blond contact there!! Assuming she remembers me...

The last 6' tall blonde i seen had hair clear down her back, I don't think that if her name was Wilbur it would matter to any thriving young nor old man!

This is no kidding... I went to do my wash one night up at Keflavik, and found some drunk chick asleep inside one of the dryers!!!
