IMPOUNDED

If you have documentation from the state approving the car as it sits, then HELL YEAH you fight it in court!
Why is that even a question?
Not fighting such tyranny is how such states get to be such ******** to begin with!

Remember, we're talking about the state that refused to register Superbirds when they were new!
MD been blue for a long time now...

Ticket, maybe. Even if it was illegal, impound just for obstructed vision is a ridiculous waste of time and resources.
So glad I live in the (semi) wild west.
The issue w ticket is similar to no insurance. If the officer cites the obstructed vision and let's the driver drive away, then the driver gets in an accident that was due to obstructed vision, the department is liable. The vehicle must be towed by a legal tow company. Unfortunately in today's "Sue happy" society, the departments have to look out for liability.

I even have Maryland Street Rod plates. These plates are only for driving to events, and you have to send pictures of all modifications to the DMV. They have pictures of the scoop and everything on file and told me I'm legal. I'm registered and insured.

It's not unusual for one individual in an agency to be ignorant of all of the rules within the agency. Many states have the "obscured vision" statute in their vehicle code. I remember when some factory cars like L88 Chevies were deemed "illegal" because of their bulge hoods.

One can fly Los Angeles to San Jose Del Cabo (Cabo San Lucas) Mexico presently for $165.00 round trip. How do they figure $600.00 to tow nowhere?

Because we don't take Pesos

Ok, I get it that the drivers view May have been obstructed. I assume that it would be an infraction and not a criminal offense, so my question would be why was the car impounded. I get it that they didn’t want the liability of letting you drive off after them saying it was unsafe. I don’t understand why you were there for an hour and you couldn’t call your own wrecker. This wrecker was probably on a wrecker rotation list, so he had to make his money when he was called. Is it a mailable, reasonable fine for the ticket and is it worth your time and effort to go to court? It won’t get your money back from the tow company.

Unless people start talking a stand, it will only get worse.

Taking a stand on what though. The traffic law, or the unreasonable impoundment,
Btw, beautiful car, but I wouldn’t take that first picture to court. Just saying.

I’ve done the towing for local and state PD for years. High fees also help compensate for dead beats that make you eat your costs after they wrecked into a pole at 3 am drunk. There are huge amounts of dead beats and the price is posted usually with the local PD. That being said.. I would have said we will figure this out.. and let him go no charge. The PD has a release form that used to be free, now it’s very expensive as the money goes to the general fund, then you present it to me and we call it back in that it’s getting released and send I paper work and then days later the released one is done. The abandoned one takes months to years to legally dispose of and you lost everything on it. The rule of thumb is common sense, but greed wins. Service is one thing, I would have put it on a tilt deck and pulled it in and kept it protected and when the paper work was done it was over and done, the guy took it in the butt already. But if someone is disrespectful to me or an insurance company I used to stick to the posted prices. I got out of it years ago, still help a good friend out and enjoy it. Insurance is crazy expensive and trucks are big coin new or old for quality stuff.

Got it back the same night! (despite maxing out credit cards) and took it to the show the next day.
Won a celebrity choice trophy from Garage Squad on Friday, and won Best in show on Saturday at the convention center parking lot! I just took the scoop off and drove it anyway.

Glad you won that, especially from all the trouble you had. Do you think the cop would have let you take the scoop off, rather than tow the car? Or was he just being ah.

Trust me, I asked.

Cop: "well, that'd be a start."

Me: "so I can take the scoop off and drive it?"

Cop: "you're getting towed"

I’d take this photo to court. Blocking the street and intersection? For a running car? Just to make a point to all the car guys on the scene.

where is @HEMI-ITIS ? He got a ticket for no hood at Carlisle. Guess they didn’t care about the equipment rising skyward.
