as I said in an earlier post, the R/D at AMD have done their jobs well. most, if not all of the issues on their product line are dealt with. I also have to say that, having experience with most of the majors in the industry, the majority of the product I install is that which works for me. and the only time I've ever had an issue was when I worked with different suppliers. and there was nothing that was insurmountable. as far as advice, hmmmm, before you tear into your project, get a tape measure out and record everything. photographic records are very useful. I used to use a notebook. the pics I post here are only 8% to 10 % of the photos I've taken. even if you aren't sure you need the number, write it down anyway. there is no such thing as too much info. and take your time. the time you save will save you money and sanity. back tracking is frustrating and counter productive to say the least.

Coronet66JJ thanks a lot. i'm blushing. my theory is to do it the way I would want it done. I really appreciate the vote of confidence in my work. these cars are my passion. and i'm glad to hear you like it. this one should be around for a long time. btw, my best friend had a 66 coronet 500 big block 4 speed vert when we were kids. he now has two of em, one 4 speed, one auto. both 383 cars, both 500's. sweet as sugar.

I have a question for you , . I noticed that after your welds are complete , you are doing more surface prep than I usually see. It appears like a factory job. Is there a particular sealer or a weld through primer that is neccesary. the reason i'm asking is that black coating on the panels doesnt look like primer to me and I'm wondering about future rust developing where my welds are? any information would be helpful , I am planning on doing a partial quarter on my' 66. thanks!

the only thing i've done on the trunk floor is grind the welds out. I take it down to the floor pan and hit it with 80 grit on the D/A. that will remove the manufacturers sealer/ primer/ rust shield. on all exterior surfaces I remove this. on internal areas I scuff the tar out of it with red scotch bright. all of my bare metal gets an etching primer then 2k primer. I only use DuPont materials. the 615/616 etching primer is very easy to use and I weld through and occasionally I weld through it. but I use an old end mill to remove anything in the hole before I weld. especially when i'm using an adhesive along with the weld, as I've done on this trunk floor pan. I also blast all of my welds. you can not completely stop the rust. no matter how hard you try. so I blast, grind, sand, etch, seam seal, 2k and paint. just to cover it up with as much material as possible, if you've done a good job cleaning up before hand, you can slow it down significantly. thats about all you can ask for.

remember, you will have to massage any panel you use. its the nature of the beast. I really do try to do a good job. that's all I would ask of my body guy. how about you?

Jeff, I would want my body guy to do the best he can. Since I am doing all the bodywork myself, I guess that means I am my own worst critic. I am adding you to my growing list of people here that have made me step up my program on my own car. I can't begin to say how much I've learn on this site, and i'm watching yours as well since we both have one the same year.

68 post, thanks a lot for the info on surface prep! I was told years ago about that black coating on the repro panels, he said that I should sand it all off or I would have adhesion problems , but i noticed the guys on this site were painting over it, so I thought I would ask you to make sure I was up to date. Also thanks for the procedure for rust prevention at the weld spots, useful for a long lasting repair..Professional advice is very valuable !
