lost my best friend

soooooo stressed and upset, not sure what to do, 2 things that were Todd's final wishes, #1 he wanted to make sure his son was provided for, #2 he wanted me to have his car. in talking with his parents, oldest brother, ex-wife and son, they are all in agreement, that he wanted me to have the car,. problem is Todd never updated his will, so there is no legal claim for said car. The brother has told his parents, that he cannot give me the car, unless I pay fair market value for it
I will not cause a family feud over this, and as long as the car is sold and the money is put into account for his son, I'm fine with that.

i dont know what to do

Walk away with Todd in your mind and heart. Continue your life, that's the important function to heal your situation.
Mike

honestly , as long as the $$ goes to his son, I'm very ok with, I do want to make sure his son is well provided for,

Yeah, that sucks.

Emotion and sometimes unrealized (by the guilty party) greed tend to boil to the surface in situations like that.

I had a similar experience when my uncle passed.

His oldest brother wanted one last picture of us together, a bit morbid to some, but, I'm ok with it.. I will be buried here anyway !

Yeah - there are horror stories with this kind of thing. I endured something similar to this a few years ago with a crazy aunt. Seems a real shame the parents, understanding this situation wouldn't somehow be able to object that the wishes of Todd are not being respected - in short - this would really piss me off, as HIS wishes are being ignored plainly. A shitty thing to do.

thing is he has ( had) 5 muscle cars at the time he passed ( plus 3 other cars ) , it would have just been nice to have been offered 1 . ( yes all 5 mopars ) , not sure i could have accepted anyway, would depend on how much $$ will be avail to support his son. The cars are nice, the have lots of memories, but they are at the end of the day, just a car, I can look at his son, talk to his son, be there for his son and know that i have something that truly is a part of Todd, not just a material possession of Todd's.

I'm just venting more than anything

sorry to hear about the beef
'over the car' & the greed of the "golden child"

sad his last wishes aren't being upheld

It's not worth getting into their family struggles/arguments

best wishes, to all concerned

i agree, i hold his mom and dad in way too high of regards to ever create a family rift over this, but i will do everything i can to make sure that every penny goes into account for his boy. and do what i can to make sure all assets are sold for a fair value.

Hope you don't mind my injecting a story about my aunt. She wanted to leave her money to me; a very nice chunk of change. Long story; but she had a hate on for most of the family including her own kids. I found this odd - but let's say Hollywood couldn't have scripted a bigger-badder bitch than she was. She developed a few loose screws though. She liked me from the days I was younger helping out staying at her place over a couple weeks a summer. My uncle had MS and couldn't do much. My mom though did tons for them - no kidding, the amount of money she spent on them had to be $30k+ especially when my uncle needed to go in a nursing home. After my mom passed, I had to go through her records finding many checks she had drafted few were less than for a grand and this was over 30 years ago.

My aunt took off for some 15 years, just disappeared when dumping my uncle in the home. She came back wealthy having married a skank...but one with big money who croaked. Later, she got cancer and hired a couple of 'ladies' to care for her at home. They were good...like clever, as I lived 3 hours away, we'd call her and da ladies would always say she was sleeping. I'd take my mom to visit her about every other week to spend the day when I could schedule a day for this and could tell something wasn't right with these ladies. They'd never be around when they knew we were coming. Go figure, less than a week before she died, she changed her Will - giving everything to those ladies. Her daughter did a little investigating finding out da ladies here were very well off living in huge homes, driving bling mobiles...giving indication this maybe wasn't the first time they were able to snag an inheritance. Nice skanking when ya can do it.

I did tell my mother about a year before, as I was getting real fed up with da bitch, there's no way she won't end up hating us. Another longer story given the BS I did helping her. She had a real pattern of nuking one family member after the other. She became one vile bitch wish never would have returned as my earlier memories of her were good ones. On a humorous note, one of her wishes were to have her ashes scattered over water...my guess is those ladies handled this with something convenient...like a toilet.

JP, if you are that close to that family (with the burial plot thing)......

They are WAY wrong to be treating you like an outsider only when it comes to monetary value.

WAY WRONG.

I cant say the family is treating me badly

well, after much thought and conversations with the family, i have ended up buying 1 car and 4 post lift. I did pay fair market, and I am good with that, the money will go to his son, so , at the end of the day I honored his wishes, I ended up with 1 car and and helping his son.

Sorry that cost you money, but that did help honor both of your friends wishes. Spending the money right now might sting, but in the end, it sounds like a decent way to both honor you friends memory as well as keep peace with the family you are close to.

Well done.

You can rest easy knowing you helped your friends son. Very sorry for your loss. Please keep in touch with your friends son. You will have lots of great memories to share with him. Kim
