Wow she's getting close man, exciting stuff! I'm no expert but from what I do know I'll back up what prop, ron, 747, and everyone else is saying. Charge the battery and/or jump it with another car, and get #1 to tdc and check the distributor for proper timing before trying again. Good luck and can't wait to hear it run!

Woohoo, it's going. First off I fixed the fuel feed problem. Turns out that when I put the fuel pump on the motor I didn't check that I had the actuator rod above the pump lever. :cussing: Can't believe that I was that stupid. Then took Propwash's suggestion to make sure fuel was ok and out she came. Next I checked for TDC using the advice from 68GTX440 and 747 Mopar, just as well because I was way out. Thanks fellas. Then cranked and checked for spark like Propwash said and all good. Took Kiwis advice and hooked up the old Mazda work car and away she went. Thanks for all the well wishes and tips. Here's the result.

I had loose clamps underneath on the exhaust hence the rattling. After the video I moved the distributor a bit and tried again and it wasn't so rough. I didn't let it run too long as I couldn't see oil coming out the rockers. I had a mechanical oil guage sitting on the top of the wiper motor and it wasn't showing any pressure. When I was priming the oil pump I had oil coming out the sender unit hole, because I had forgot to put the oil guage plug in. So why would I not have oil pressure now. Should the guage register the pressure fairly quickly?

Nice to have some problems taken care of. But for your question about oil pressure, it should come up right away. My gauge would show pressure just from the starter motor before the engine even fired.

Once you get that engine running, get a timing light on it and fine tune the best you can before running the engine too long. Nice to see it running at last

Bit of wiring

I hooked up the door light switches and rear body wiring today after going over the loom and cleaning it up a bit. Ran the dome light wiring through the A pillar and hooked it up to the main loom. Connected the console wiring to the loom as well. I'm not sure if I mentioned this before or not, but I ended up buying a new dash wiring loom and removed the one that I had made up from the original and a spare. I wasn't happy about the old wires being hard and a bit inflexible. Even after I put it in I had visions of it smoking later down the track. Didn't feel like toasting weenies :campfire: Being that the main harnesses carry a lot of power, I decided to buy new ones for piece of mind. Putting the old ones together did give me a bit of an education in wiring though, and I think that was a good thing. :icon_thumleft:

I'm not sure if it's camera angle but I don't remember spots on the park brake handle. I'll have to take it off and check it out I think.

Smart choice on replacing the wiring since you've had the whole car apart anyway. Pretty cheap insurance against a meltdown. Did you re-route the main power away from the ammeter? Might think about that if not and there's a few threads about how to do it here .. Propwash's included.

No, I didn't think of the re-routing but I will look into it now before I put anything else into the dash. Had a quick search for Propwash's thread but couldn't find it. Console touch-up

Had a decent crack :bootyshake: in the top of the console and didn't have a spare $500 to grab a new one. I carved a valley with the soldering iron and cut some slivers off the underneath to use as filler and melted it back together. I forgot to take photo's during the repair, but I got one of the underneath afterwards. Because I had to sand the joint I lost the texture off the top, so unfortunately that part is smooth. Doesn't look too bad though. I had some of the leftover EF8 paint made up into spray cans, but it looked a bit bright. I ended up using some of the leftover in my spray gun and the colour came out better. :blob1:

I had a bit of trouble with the taillights because of the repop dome nuts. They wouldn't cut into the bezel shaft. I ended up using small pal nuts and silastic the dome nuts over the top. I also painted the boot body colour as I didn't like it black, just didn't look right. Sorry I listened to the resto shop on that. They talked me out of painting the inside body colour as I first wanted. Maybe it saved them time or something, I don't know. At the time I didn't really know better and took there advice on a couple of things which I ended up fixing myself later. Live and learn. :head_smack:

Had a couple of plastic pieces which I couldn't remember where they came from. After looking back through some old pics I found 'em by chance. Don't really know what they do but that's where they go. :icon_super:

Its been great following the reso, keep up the good work! I have a 70 RoadRunner with the same color combo as your GTX. Have owned the car since high school, sometime in 85 is when i purchased it. Hope to start my restoration later this year
