Next come wheels and tires !! Woo Hoo !!. Are you going to paint the Drum faces red and what wheels are tires are you planning on Monroe?

Looking fantastic.

looking good, color looks really nice, and I noticed in an engine pic. a Hemi alternator adjusting bracket! LOL!

At the moment I'm gonna keep the steel wheels that I got with it, so I'll keep the drums grey. Not sure if it came with styled or steel wheels, I don't have a build sheet and the fender tag doesn't say. I got some nice '70 hubcaps off the net to put on. Later down the track I'd like to put magnums on it. I might see if I can clean up the old drums to see any hint of red behind the rust, never thought of doing that before. But if they're not original it's not really gonna help much any way I suppose.

Thanks Hemi. Bracket came with the car, I couldn't tell one from another. Been searching for an original replacement but haven't got hold of one as yet.

Gotcha Monroe I like stock look also. I just meant getting your wheels and tires on it and having it rolling again. I believe red should be correct on the faces, for 11" drums anyway but maybe not. CRS these days

Didn't do to much this weekend except hook up the brake line to the rear and put on the axle bumpers. I forgot that the paint shop had painted them when doing some of the smaller stuff. Bit strange to paint the rubber but I never realised at the time. Never mind, they don't look too bad painted. Does anyone know if the bumper is the correct one? I've seen some
info on the net that say the bumpers are the rounded type for 440 motors and Hemis.

From what I have seen, 440 & Hemi cars should have the rounded bumpers.

Great job Monroe
I just caught up to this thread. I feel your pain on the body work. I have been working on mine 70 GTX for 5 years now and the end is in sight, I can't imagine how excited you must be now you are so close to done. I admire your perseverance, it is bad enough waiting on parts here in the states let alone the extra time and freight costs you guys down under have to endure.
I have to spend more time here, I started my buiild thread in the 66-70 Mopar forum, I am not so sure this forum was up when I started my build.

Thanks Darius. These forums make you realise you're not alone with the problems these things create when you're putting them back together. I found your thread too earlier this year, and have been following it. Your fabricating work is amazing, and that blue is awesome, really jumps out and bites ya.

I'm really liking the bottom of your car "looks like paint but seams to have some texture" what is it? Sorry if it was already mentioned but I really like it and was curious. Nice work

Hi 747. It's a spray on stone chip protection which can be painted over. The blokes at the resto shop put it on most of the cars they do, I can't remember what it's called. I really should write stuff down, the memory ain't what it used to be.

Fuel line and brakes

I took apart the distribution and metering valves and gave them a bit of a clean up. Were full of gunk but didn't look in too bad a condition. I didn't overly polish them because I like the clean but used look. As I've said earlier this isn't a show and shine car. Found a good site that showed how to take them apart.

The pin on the metering valve was rusted into the screw cap so I don't think this had been working for quite a while. The dust cap obviously had disappeared a long time ago. Once I had removed the cap and spring body, I was able to drive the pin out of the cap and clean them both right up. It seems to be in working order again but I would like to get a new rubber cup and a dust cap again.
I might see if I can get a kit so that they have all new rubber components inside. Also, my car didn't have the proportioning valve with it, which according to the manual it should have had. It only had the combination safety switch and distribution valve and the metering valve, going by my book it should have another proportioning valve underneath these because it is a disc and drum car. Does anyone know if this is right?
I tried to make up a new main fuel line as mine had been cut in half and replaced with rubber hose. I only had the return vapour line to use as a pattern, but because it is fairly flexible I think the bends aren't too accurate anymore. Does any one have any photos of how the fuel and return lines are routed over and around the rear shocks and crossmember to the tank. Unfortunately I didn't get any photos of that area when i took it apart. :head_smack:

Your doing a great job, beautiful color. Reminds me of when I did mine over 20 years ago.

Thanks Monroe. Love your posts and what you are able to do in that little garage :)

Keep the pics coming, this is going to be one nice GTX.

I think they just call it "rock guard". I used it on my car years ago when I first painted it. Monroe, those new fuel lines look darn close to me. Did you go with the bigger lines or just factory diameter?

Thanks roadrunnerman. I stayed with the factory dimensions, 3/8" main feed and the return is original line.
