My $300 a month budget 69 RR project (AKA, Wholly crap, what did I get myself into)

I think the header wraps are the way to go, Im putting them on my 73

Just my opinion, but I would avoid header wraps. My car came with them and after 1 very hot humid summer in NJ, I took them off and the headers were nearly destroyed. We're not talking surface rust, parts flakes off so badly they will surely perforate soon.

Thanks for the advice... I live in Florida, so they are ALL hot and humid summers.

Maybe I'll look into ceramic coated.

Scott, I will second HT413's comments. I was thinking the same thing for my Road Runner and was talked out of it by several people for the same reason. I was told if you want cooler temperatures with headers to get them ceramic coated inside and out.

And to you too! I hope Santa leaves some nice gifts for the car!

Ok.. Ran into a snag on the brake hoses. The ones provided don't seem right.. I have the calipers rear hung as is listed on the website and instructions (I have stock sway bar mounts on the LCA). The hoses provided are only about 12" long and have a banjo fitting at one end with a 2.5" piece of hard line off of it.

The hard line section seems to be part of the problem, but the length looks like an issue as well.

Any suggestions? This set looks to be the same, single piston, slider type caliper used by pirate jack, MP brakes and Right Stuff Detailing.

I was reading through my thread to answer a question for another member and realized I left this problem I ran into unanswered... so in the spirit of being helpful to others who might read... here is the answer to my problem.....

I pinged Propwash and he shot me a pic of his set-up. (Thanks again Will!) Turns out, the hoses provided were the correct length, just needed to route them correctly. You can see the routing in the pics back on page 6.

Sorry for dredging up an old post, just don't like the loose ends.

Thanks Scott (and Will)!

I, for one, will be checking that out when I finish my brakes - hopefully soon. I appreciate ALL the help I can get to do this stuff right!

Santa brought a Steering Wheel, gas tank and 6 pack hood pins... Good times

Damn Scott I've been sleeping on this one! Can't believe how far it's come and some awesome work! Sounds great and really impressed with your job on the seats!

What steering wheel? and I'm jealous of the 6 pak hood let alone the pins! lol I have Hood Envy!

I'm going to be paying close attention to the console you're going with and what pistol grip is currently in your car? any other interior pics of your buckets, console, shifter may help my future decision making process big time!

Happy New Year!

Mike

Thanks Mike, the Steering wheel is just a repop stock, replacement, mine had a Grant wheel on it when I got it, which I mistakenly replaced with another small Grant wheel... Real joy killer, having people watch you struggle to to make a 3 point turn in the parking lot with manual steering, big front tires and a tiny steering wheel that you can't get any leverage on.

I'm excited about the hood pins for the moment. Converting to a lift off hood as the current hinges are destroying the fiberglass hood. We'll see how that goes, I might end up regretting it as I have a small garage and not a lot of room to place the hood when I'm working on the car.

I'll have to take some more pics of the interior , but it's in mid resto at the moment, I got sidetracked with mechanical projects once I got her driving around.

I currently have a bench seat 70' pistol grip shifter in there. I'm pretty sure the PO just jammed it into the 69 shift mechanism cause it ain't coming out no matter what I do.

I bought a new hurst comp console shifter with ball handle and will probably sell the pistol grip once I get it out and can see what's what.

I hear you on the power steering and small wheel. I have a Tuff wheel and it makes for a workout in parking lots but I like the feel and the extra room the small wheel gives my long(ish) legs.

I've heard of some lighter duty hinges for the fiberglas hoods when I was considering that option but I'm so damn in love with my custom call-outs on the side of my air grabber now I doubt I'll change even though I LOVE the look of the 6-pak!! It does not come any meaner :)

No rush for the interior pics I'm just always gathering ideas... Also when you do manage to get that pistol grip out shoot me a pm even if you're going to sell. Even if it's damaged in the process I might be able to use it to customize something for mine as the wood grain pistol handle would be mu desired end result. I had just got the stock bench shifter with hurst ball ordered the week before I made this tranny decision lol OOPS!!

Awesome project brother! Cheers!

Will do.

Hey Scott, Did you ever post a vid of how the beast sounds now with the Dynomax mufflers and H-pipe? Can you link it here?!

Scratch that, I see you did post vids, Doh...

No problem Frank, I still need to take a better vid, but I think you get the general sound of it.

I finally have a weekend where I can spend some time to replace the gas tank that has been leaking. Unfortunately I have already run into a snag.... The PO apparently removed the fuel vent lines and just ran a short line of hose from one vent nipple to the other to bypass it.

I am assuming, that this is going to cause fuel starvation and leaks.. I believe the tank is leaking at the seams, which is why I'm replacing it... I wonder if the seams actually popped from the unvented fuel pressure?

I also assume there's no getting around installing the vent lines? installation of a vented gas cap on a RR with the filler neck running out behind the plate would leak gas under acceleration?

Anyway, I'll have to locate some vent lines and start figuring out how they are supposed to be run.... If anyone has a pic, I'd appreciate it greatly.
